Encompass Health and Vanderbilt Health to Build New Rehabilitation Hospital in Lebanon, Tennessee

Encompass Health and Vanderbilt Health Collaborative Project

Encompass Health Corp., recognized as the leading owner and operator of inpatient rehabilitation hospitals across the United States, has made an important announcement regarding a joint venture with Vanderbilt Health. Together, they are embarking on the development of a 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Barton Village, a thriving mixed-use master-planned community located in Lebanon, Tennessee. This initiative marks a significant step forward in their ongoing partnership and commitment to providing high-quality rehabilitation services to the local community.

Vision for Local Rehabilitation Services

Mat Gooch, the president of Encompass Health's Northeast region, expressed enthusiasm about this new development. The hospital is designed to complement the acute care services already available in the area, which are primarily provided by Vanderbilt Health. Gooch noted, “We look forward to expanding our partnership with Vanderbilt to bring high-quality inpatient rehabilitation care to patients in Wilson, Smith, Trousdale, and Macon counties.” This strategic project aims to ensure that patients recovering from serious health conditions can receive hospital-level care and comprehensive rehabilitation services conveniently close to their homes.

Specialized Care for Diverse Conditions

The new facility will cater to a wide range of patients recovering from serious illnesses and injuries. These include conditions such as strokes, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, amputations, and complex orthopedic issues. The hospital will be staffed around the clock by dedicated healthcare professionals, including skilled nurses, therapists, and physicians specialized in rehabilitation. Patients will have access to a variety of therapeutic services, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy, all aimed at restoring functional ability and enhancing overall quality of life.

Advanced Facilities and Amenities

Designed with patient comfort and effective therapy in mind, the hospital will feature exclusively private patient rooms. Among its various amenities are a spacious therapy gym equipped with advanced rehabilitation technologies, an activities of daily living suite, and an in-house dialysis suite. The facility will also include essential services such as a dining room, pharmacy, and a therapy courtyard to promote a holistic recovery environment.

Anticipated Opening Date

The opening of the new hospital is anticipated for 2028. This facility will represent both Encompass Health’s and Vanderbilt Health’s second collaborative venture, following their successful partnership at the Vanderbilt Stallworth Rehabilitation Hospital located in Nashville.

Addressing Growing Healthcare Needs

The importance of this hospital cannot be understated, particularly as the demand for rehabilitation services increases. Dr. Jane Freedman, Deputy CEO and Chief Health System Officer for Vanderbilt University Medical Center, emphasized, “As the number of patients we treat continues to rise, including those who need recovery from severe trauma, organ transplantation, stroke, and other conditions, additional beds are required to help meet this goal.” She anticipates that the collaboration with Encompass Health will allow them to fulfill the healthcare needs of patients in a modern, state-of-the-art setting staffed by outstanding medical professionals.
