Dr. Jaime A. Gomez Joins Nicklaus Children's Orthopedics



On July 17, 2025, Dr. Jaime A. Gomez, a board-certified pediatric spine surgeon, became a part of the Nicklaus Children's Orthopedics, Sports Medicine and Spine Institute. This significant appointment reflects both his impressive expertise and the dedication of Nicklaus Children's in providing top-notch pediatric care. According to U.S. News & World Report, the institute is recognized as one of the leading children's orthopedic programs in the nation.

Dr. Gomez is well-known for his skillful approaches to treating various spinal conditions in children and adolescents, particularly scoliosis. His specialties include the use of growth-friendly surgical techniques tailored for young patients, along with minimally invasive strategies like scoliosis casting and complex spinal deformity corrections which could vastly improve the quality of life for young patients facing these challenges.

An active researcher at heart, Dr. Gomez is committed to exploring clinical outcomes in pediatric orthopedics. He has contributed his valuable insights to over 50 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. He has also had the opportunity to present his research at both national and international conferences, showcasing his commitment to advancing the field of pediatric spine surgery. Furthermore, Dr. Gomez has participated in numerous medical-surgical missions in the Dominican Republic, collaborating with non-profit organizations such as World Spine Outreach and the Butterfly Foundation, thereby extending his care to underserved populations.

Dr. Gomez obtained his medical degree from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia. He then completed an orthopedic surgical residency at Columbia University’s New York Presbyterian Hospital. Following that, he undertook a pediatric orthopedic fellowship at Harvard Medical School/Boston Children's Hospital, eventually pursuing a spine surgery fellowship at New York University’s Hospital for Joint Diseases.

Before his tenure at Nicklaus Children’s, Dr. Gomez held significant positions as the director of Spinal Deformity and Pediatric Spine Surgery at Montefiore Einstein in New York City, as well as the director of Pediatric Orthopedic Education and Research. He has also served as an associate professor of Orthopedic Surgery and Pediatrics, reinforcing his commitment to educational excellence in this specialized field.

Fluent in both English and Spanish, Dr. Gomez’s bilingual abilities are an asset in communicating effectively with patients and families from diverse backgrounds.
