Bank of Botetourt Opens a New Branch in Roanoke

On May 9, 2025, the Bank of Botetourt celebrated the grand opening of its latest full-service branch located at Melrose Plaza in Northwest Roanoke, Virginia. This significant event was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by a number of local dignitaries including city officials, community leaders, and collaborative partners.

The Melrose Plaza branch spans 2,600 square feet and represents the Bank's inaugural presence in Roanoke City. A notable feature of this branch is its 24/7 ATM, allowing customers to access their finances at any time. Furthermore, the branch has employed three new team members and offers a unique service: one-on-one financial coaching for individuals and families. This initiative aims to empower clients with the tools needed to achieve financial stability.

Michelle Austin, the President and Chief Operating Officer of Bank of Botetourt, spoke at the opening, emphasizing the mission of the Bank: “This new office embodies our mission to build relationships and strengthen communities. We are proud to open our doors in Northwest Roanoke, and we are here to be more than a bank—we are a committed partner for financial empowerment and community growth.”

The grand opening also included reflections from local leaders such as Ben Oldham, Vice-Chair of the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce, and Ernisha Hall, President and CEO of the Virginia Black Chamber of Commerce. Honorable Trish White-Boyd, the former Vice Mayor of Roanoke, alongside Mindy Boyd from Goodwill Industries of the Valleys and Mayor Joseph Cobb, also shared their insights about the importance of the new branch to the local community.

Melrose Plaza is undergoing a transformation, turned from a former retail site into a vibrant hub for essential community services thanks to Goodwill Industries of the Valleys. Not only does it provide banking services, but it also features facilities like the Market on Melrose and the Melrose Branch Library. Additional services focusing on education, wellness, and cultural events are set to join the lineup later in the summer, further enhancing the Plaza's community-centric offerings.

Rita Joyce, Assistant Vice President and Community Development Officer of the new branch, expressed appreciation for the community’s positive reception: “From the very first day, we've felt embraced by this community. We are dedicated to earning the trust of our neighbors every day, and I am incredibly proud to help lead a team that reflects the strength and heart of Northwest Roanoke.”

Now officially open, the Melrose Plaza branch is located at 2502 Suite B, Melrose Avenue NW, Roanoke, VA 24017. The Bank of Botetourt looks forward to continuing its community mission across Southwest Virginia, striving to build lasting relationships and strengthen local communities.

Incorporated in 1899, Bank of Botetourt operates fifteen retail locations across Botetourt, Rockbridge, Roanoke, and Franklin counties, along with the City of Salem and the towns of Vinton and Rocky Mount. Furthermore, Bank of Botetourt has a mortgage division called Virginia Mountain Mortgage and a wealth management division termed Botetourt Wealth Management. For 2024, Forbes ranked the Bank of Botetourt as the leading bank in Virginia according to a nationwide survey, solidifying its reputation in the financial landscape.
