Public Viewing Event in Arakawa Celebrates 2026 World Baseball Classic Heroes

A Thrilling Public Viewing for the 2026 World Baseball Classic

On March 7, Arakawa Sports Center hosted an exciting public viewing event for the 2026 World Baseball Classic, bringing together local fans to cheer for Japan's national team. The event was co-hosted by the Arakawa Ward and Netflix, aiming to create a community atmosphere where people, especially the children—our future heroes—could unite in support of their team and local star player, Seiya Suzuki.

As the event kicked off, the atmosphere was electric with excitement surrounding the highly anticipated matchup between Japan and South Korea. About 150 supporters gathered at the venue, ready to witness an unforgettable game. To start the proceedings, the attendees were treated to a heartfelt video message created by the ward, featuring supportive words from Suzuki's mentors from his time at the Arakawa Little Seniors, teammates from the Asahi Trust Women's Baseball team, and messages from school staff and students at his alma mater. Arakawa Ward officials, including district head Takiguchi, were also present, showcasing the community's collective support for Suzuki.

As the game began, fans were filled with anticipation. Although South Korea took an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning, Suzuki quickly turned the game around by hitting a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning. His remarkable performance didn't stop there. By the third inning, Suzuki, along with his teammates Shohei Ohtani and Masataka Yoshida, powered Japan to a significant lead, hitting multiple home runs and showcasing their offensive strength.

Suzuki had an outstanding game, contributing four RBIs, including two home runs, helping Japan secure a thrilling 8-6 victory over South Korea. The energy in the Arakawa Sports Center during those final moments was palpable, as fans erupted into cheers, sharing the highs and lows of the intense match together. The home run barrage from the Japanese players not only highlighted their skill but also displayed the spirit of teamwork that fans have come to admire.

Fan Reactions

One of the standout moments came from Nozomi Ito, a member of the Arakawa Little Seniors, who expressed her excitement, saying, “I’m so happy that Seiya Suzuki hit two home runs! I can't wait to see him play in the next match against Australia!” Her enthusiasm reflects the sentiments of many who participated in the event.
