The Launch of the Reality Science Institute by Digital Hollywood University

The Launch of the Reality Science Institute

Digital Hollywood University (DHU), located in Ochanomizu, Tokyo, has recently unveiled its new research facility, the Reality Science Institute, under the leadership of President Naoki Fujii. This initiative will officially open in July 2026 and aims to provide a collaborative space for researchers, creators, industry professionals, and government institutions to explore and practice reality editing, a concept introduced by President Fujii.

The Phases of the Initiative

The new institute is focused on the pursuit of 'reality science,' which studies how individuals construct their realities through their brains. This multi-disciplinary approach seeks to create a platform where knowledge generated through research can be effectively applied in society, thereby fostering a continuous cycle of learning and inquiry.

As the world experiences rapid technological advances in AI, XR, and neuroscience, traditional notions of a universal truth are increasingly being challenged. The Reality Science Institute confronts this reality, advocating for anyone to learn and practice reality editing. This initiative underscores the belief that reality is subjective and shaped by individual perspectives.

President Fujii's mission, 'Fill the World,' revitalizes the university's founding vision of turning everything into entertainment, expanding its focus to the potential of humanity and society.

Objectives of the Institute

The Reality Science Institute will operate on four primary functions: research, implementation, education, and dissemination of knowledge. It aims to develop into a 'knowledge infrastructure for the future' within the next ten years. From the start, the institute will focus on several flagship projects:

1. Active Cybersecurity: Establishing a hub for cybersecurity research in Japan.
2. Reboot of Digital Health Society: Reevaluating the boundaries between medical providers and recipients.
3. Collaboration with 'Ame ni mo Makezu' High School: Engaging in resilience education for teenagers.
4. Partnership with Singulab: Merging research knowledge with emergent communities.

All these projects showcase different scales of reality editing practices, representing the institute's commitment to socially implementing knowledge.

Leadership and Mission

Naoki Fujii, the president of Digital Hollywood University, will lead the Reality Science Institute. Dr. Fujii, an ophthalmologist with a Ph.D. in medicine, has an extensive academic background, including research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and roles at various prestigious institutions. He assumes the role of a pioneering leader, determined to explore the social functions of the brain and provide innovative solutions through education and research.

Invitation for Collaboration

The Reality Science Institute actively seeks collaborations with businesses, research institutes, governmental organizations, and creators interested in participating in joint research or projects. Those interested can find more information on their official website and reach out through a dedicated partnership application form.
