CeraVe's Commitment to Skin Health Equity
CeraVe, known as the leading dermatologist-recommended skincare brand in the U.S., has stepped up its efforts in supporting global skin health initiatives on World Skin Health Day, which occurs annually on July 8. This year, the brand partnered with the International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS) and the International Society of Dermatology (ISD) to address the pressing global skin health crisis by providing dermatological care to underserved populations across nine countries.
Despite skin diseases impacting one-third of the world’s population, many individuals still lack access to critical dermatological services. In various regions, such as parts of Africa and Asia, there can be less than one dermatologist for every million citizens, leaving an alarming three billion people without any access to care. CeraVe is determined to change this narrative by leveraging its partnerships to help bridge the gap in care.
This July, CeraVe activated initiatives in nine countries, successfully treating over 3,900 patients through their World Skin Health Day campaigns. With participation from 76 countries, the awareness efforts resonated globally, reaching over 4.5 million individuals through various platforms, including a virtual event celebrating CeraVe’s 20th anniversary.
Global Outreach and Impact
CeraVe’s initiatives were not limited to just raising awareness. Eleven in-country events were organized, highlighting the brand's commitment to improving access to care and educating healthcare providers. For example:
- - In Indonesia, over 220 patients received much-needed dermatological care, with more than 60 government officials pledging their support for skin health initiatives.
- - In Nigeria, roughly 1,200 first-time patients accessed dermatological services that were previously unavailable to them.
- - Bangladesh deployed mobile dermatology units to reach flood-prone remote areas, effectively diagnosing and treating over 1,000 vulnerable individuals.
- - In the Philippines, a collaboration with 50 dermatologists and local healthcare workers resulted in 163 patients receiving care, alongside training for 136 other healthcare specialists.
In the United States, CeraVe partnered with the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (NAFC) to further focus on underserved communities. Dermatologists volunteered their time, providing consultations at NAFC clinics and offering educational sessions led by L'Oreal Skin Health Advisors. The collaborative efforts have significantly impacted the lives of numerous patients and volunteers, empowering local communities to take action on skin health.
Ariana Gordillo, Senior Director at NAFC, praised CeraVe’s contributions by stating, “Our ongoing partnership with CeraVe has brought tremendous value to our clinics, from providing educational opportunities for volunteers to expanding the scope of care we can offer our patients.”
Continuing the Mission
CeraVe’s commitment to skin health equity is encapsulated in their philanthropic program, Care For All. Through this program, they aim to enhance access to dermatological care for underserved populations while also equipping frontline health workers with the necessary tools to make a difference.
Tom Allison, Senior Vice President of Medical Dermatology Marketing at L'Oreal, expressed CeraVe’s dedication to this cause by saying, “Skin health is a fundamental human right, and supporting initiatives like World Skin Health Day allows CeraVe to spark conversation, champion equity, and lead the way in enacting change for all.”
This year’s activities reaffirm CeraVe’s resolve to break down barriers to care, continually working towards a future where everyone, regardless of their background or location, has access to quality skincare.
