Major Expansion of ACMI's National Security Industrial Hub

The American Center for Manufacturing and Innovation (ACMI) has made headlines with the announcement of a significant expansion of its National Security Industrial Hub (NSIH) in Indiana. This initiative is set to boost the hub’s footprint from its original 1,100 acres to over 1,500 acres, marking a growth of more than a third. This expansion positions the NSIH as not only the largest aerospace and defense project in Indiana but also one of the largest of its kind in the United States.

New Tenants and Capabilities

With the increasing demand from defense operators and manufacturing partners, the hub will welcome notable companies such as SPINNER North America and iRocket. SPINNER North America, renowned for its high-quality CNC machine tools and automation solutions, is establishing an advanced manufacturing facility within the NSIH. This facility will facilitate rapid prototyping and mass production, leveraging advanced machining technology and engineering expertise to support varied manufacturing needs across the hub.

Salim E. Awad, President and CEO of SPINNER North America, emphasized the significance of this location, stating that it serves as a premier center for modern defense manufacturing and innovation. SPINNER’s role will be crucial in aiding manufacturers to navigate complex machining challenges and improve domestic production capabilities.

On the other hand, iRocket, a pioneer in developing next-generation manufacturing for solid rocket motors and reusable rockets, plans to set up essential facilities at the NSIH to enhance its technological advancements. Chris Mignano, Vice President at iRocket, highlighted that the collaborative environment at NSIH is vital for the rapid prototyping and transitioning of new technologies into mass production.

Additionally, Prometheus Energetics has announced its plans to upscale its presence within the hub, increasing its site area from 600 acres to approximately 700 acres for its headquarters and solid rocket motor production facilities.

This expansion has stirred enthusiasm among local leaders, with Senator Jim Banks acknowledging Indiana’s pivotal role in America's defense industrial base. The growth of the NSIH is expected to bolster critical munitions production and generate substantial employment opportunities, further solidifying the region’s economic foundation.

Representative Mark Messmer also expressed support, highlighting that this investment will inject millions into the local economy and assist companies in scaling their operations within a vital defense district, positioned near Crane, Indiana's largest naval base.
