Premise Health Marks a Decade of Service and a Legacy of 60 Years in Healthcare Excellence
Celebrating Milestones in Healthcare
This December, Premise Health acknowledges a significant achievement: its 10-year brand anniversary, while also honoring a remarkable 60-year history as a key player in the healthcare sector. Established as the largest direct healthcare provider in the country, Premise collaborates with employers and unions to deliver personalized, high-quality care.
Premise operates over 800 wellness centers nationwide, serving a diverse clientele of 400 commercial and municipal employers, health plans, unions, and tribal organizations. According to their 2024 annual study, the advanced primary care model offered by Premise is making a significant impact. It saves members an average of 30% in total healthcare costs, amounting to about $2,434, and notably reduces hospital admissions for inpatient or emergency services.
A Reflection on the Journey
The journey began in 1964 with several small healthcare companies focused on serving employers and their employees. This set the foundation for what would evolve into Premise Health we know today. Initially focused on onsite healthcare, the company took a major step forward in 2014, when a merger between CHS Health Services and Take Care Employer Services marked a pivotal moment in its growth, leading to the rebranding as Premise Health. At that time, the company managed 500 worksite health and wellness centers for 200 of the nation's top employers, enhancing their service offerings to include primary care, pharmacy, wellness, and condition management.
The acquisition of Premise by the private equity arm of OMERS in 2018 fortified its mission and operational capabilities. This new partnership brought with it shared values and a commitment to transforming the healthcare landscape by prioritizing value-driven care, further underscoring the organization's mission to provide exceptional services.
Investing in advanced technologies became a hallmark of Premise's strategy, including the implementation of the Epic electronic medical record platform and the rollout of virtual care services. By February of 2020, Premise introduced its first version of a virtual care platform, providing members access to 24/7 care through the My Premise Health app.
Present-Day Success and Commitment
Fast forward to today, Premise continues to thrive, reporting $1.2 billion in revenue in 2023, with projections of approximately $1.5 billion by the end of 2024. Their comprehensive healthcare model integrates pharmacy services, behavioral health, and care management, all facilitated by collaborative provider teams.
“Everything we do is in service to our members and their unique organizations,” stated Beth Ratliff, the Chief Operating Officer of Premise. She emphasized the importance of establishing trust through client relationships and listening to feedback, which has shaped their data-driven and member-centric approach over the years. Ratliff's tenure dates back to 2007, showcasing her deep commitment to the growth and innovation of the company.
Looking Ahead: Innovations in Care
Premise Health's mission persists: to help people achieve and maintain optimal health through high-value healthcare. The organization is continually innovating to improve care delivery. According to CEO Stu Clark, “When we prioritize proactive care, we see better experiences for patients, improved health outcomes across populations, and significant value for everyone involved in the healthcare system.”
As it celebrates its milestones, Premise Health remains dedicated to working with some of the largest and most innovative organizations in the U.S. Their belief in reshaping healthcare drives them to maintain a culture centered around care, illustrating their commitment to doing healthcare differently.
Premise continues to stand as a leader in the direct healthcare sector, addressing the needs of millions of members across 46 states and Guam. Their vision for the future is clear: to keep pioneering advancements in healthcare to foster a healthier society.
