BIWATT Unveils Innovative Sodium-Ion Energy Storage Solutions at Intersolar 2026

BIWATT Expands Energy Storage with New Sodium-Ion Batteries

At the Intersolar Europe 2026 event, held in Munich, BIWATT introduced its latest innovations in sodium-ion energy storage technology: the PowerNest R5 for residential use and the PowerLake I3 designed for commercial and industrial applications. This step demonstrates the company's commitment to expanding its sodium-ion energy storage portfolio, which has seen a surge in use worldwide.

Unlike traditional battery integration methods, BIWATT has actively engaged in the development of its energy storage cells. This hands-on approach has allowed them to specify performance, safety, and reliability measures from the outset of the design process. Consequently, BIWATT has crafted a specialized sodium-ion battery framework that caters to energy storage requirements.

The newly launched R5 builds on the capabilities of previous models, namely the rack-mounted PowerNest R2 and the stackable PowerNest R3. Both of these models have already begun commercial distributions across global markets, paving the way for the R5 and I3.

The PowerNest R5 stands out with its modular scalability, featuring intelligent battery optimization alongside active balancing technology, which is particularly beneficial for residential energy storage applications. On the other hand, the PowerLake I3 is tailored for commercial and industrial settings, boasting flexible deployment and smart maintenance capabilities. This makes it ideal for solar-plus-storage setups, backup power systems, and distributed energy projects.

To further support its international market ambitions, BIWATT is progressing through the UL1973 certification and UL9540A testing for its sodium-ion battery offerings, reaffirming its commitment to maintain high safety standards. Owen, the company's CEO, highlighted this commitment during the product launch, stating, “Energy storage requires more than simply selecting a battery chemistry. Our focus has been to participate deeply in cell-level innovation and develop sodium-ion batteries specifically engineered for energy storage applications. The launch of R5 and I3 reflects that long-term commitment.”

Currently, BIWATT has deployed their sodium-ion products in over 20 countries, primarily across Europe. This deployment underscores the increasing recognition and adoption of sodium-ion energy storage solutions. BIWATT continues to forge ahead as a pioneer in the field, redefining energy storage with their state-of-the-art sodium-ion battery technology.
