Meet the Coffey Family

The new franchise in Maple Grove is powered by the Coffey family, all Minnesota natives entrenched in the local community and known for their ties to professional basketball. The franchise group, Starting Five LLC, comprises Richard, Sheba, Sydney, Nia, and Amir Coffey.

Richard and Amir Coffey have made notable contributions to professional basketball, with Richard having played for the Minnesota Timberwolves and his son Amir having rugged experiences with the Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Phoenix Suns. Daughter Nia is currently making her mark with the Minnesota Lynx in the WNBA, while Sydney previously played basketball overseas. Their collective experience in sports, business, and community service creates a solid foundation for their venture into the food industry.

Richard Coffey shared, “We are excited to go into business together and grateful for the opportunity to invest back into the Minnesota communities that have supported us. The vision for Chicken Salad Chick’s brand resonated with our family values, and we aim to build a business that delivers lasting value for our community.”

Community Focus and Future Plans

Chicken Salad Chick's new Maple Grove location will serve the brand's Southern-style chicken salad made from scratch, alongside a range of fresh sides, soups, sandwiches, and desserts. The restaurant features both indoor and outdoor dining, takeout, delivery options, and catering services.

He highlighted cities like Maple Grove as prime locations for the brand to flourish, thanks to the Midwest's heartwarming hospitality.

In addition to its culinary offerings, Chicken Salad Chick is deeply committed to giving back to the community. The brand has established the CSC Foundation, dedicated to supporting various non-profits, including CURE Childhood Cancer and local food banks through regular fundraising initiatives.

As part of its pre-opening events, the Maple Grove restaurant will hold special initiatives aimed at supporting the Nicholas P. Koenig HERO Foundation, which aids families facing the challenges of pediatric cancer.
