Korilakkuma Celebrates 10 Years as Tochigi Strawberry Ambassador!

Korilakkuma's Decade of Delight

In a delightful announcement, San-X Co., Ltd., based in Chiyoda, Tokyo, has confirmed the continued reign of the adorable character Korilakkuma as the Tochigi Strawberry Ambassador. Appointed by the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation Tochigi Branch (JA Zennoh Tochigi), this year marks an incredible ten years of Korilakkuma representing the region’s delectable strawberries.

Welcoming a New Strawberry Season

As part of the celebrations, the annual Tochigi strawberry ambassador art has been unveiled, highlighting three beloved strawberry varieties from the “Strawberry Kingdom” of Tochigi: Tochiai Strawberry, Tochihonoka, and Skawaberry. These vibrant posters and point-of-purchase displays will enhance the visibility and appreciation of Tochigi strawberries, making them even more popular among fans.

A Sweet Encounter

The love story between Korilakkuma and Tochigi strawberries began when an office worker named Kaoru surprised the bear with a gift of special Tochigi strawberries called Tochihonoka. Avid strawberry lover, Korilakkuma was thrilled and after indulging in a bite, was amazed by the deliciously sweet flavor. Since then, Korilakkuma has developed a fondness for strawberries and is curious about the trending Tochiai Strawberry too.

A Day to Remember

On November 25th, a special event took place at Hilton Tokyo Odaiba—the Robbery Developer Future Potential Conference—where Korilakkuma officially celebrated their 10th anniversary as Tochigi Strawberry Ambassador. Dressed in a ceremonial sash proudly displaying “Tochigi Strawberry Ambassador,” Korilakkuma joined in on commemorative photos and greetings with attendees at the venue—a celebration of both Korilakkuma’s legacy and the delicious strawberries of Tochigi.

To honor this milestone, several enjoyable activities are in the works, including strawberry tasting sessions and meet-and-greet opportunities with Korilakkuma, as well as the distribution of cute novelty items. Korilakkuma is a cute little bear that came from nowhere, initially unknown to Rilakkuma, but easily recognized by the distinctive red button on its chest, suggesting it's not a real bear. The charming and playful Koala, Kiiroitori, is the one who named Korilakkuma.
