Outer Spaces Introduces Groundbreaking Product Blending Outdoor Living with Home Energy Solutions
Outer Spaces Unveils a New Paradigm for Outdoor Living
In a significant move towards bridging the gap between outdoor living and sustainable energy, Outer Spaces has formally introduced an innovative product category that integrates solar power and battery storage with architectural design. Founded by the creative team behind the outdoor living brand Outer, their offering, named OS1, marks a pivotal shift in how we perceive residential energy use. This groundbreaking product promises not only to transform the look of our backyards but also to revolutionize how energy is harvested and consumed in our homes.
A Visionary Approach to Energy and Design
Outer Spaces has combined aesthetics with functionality, creating what they describe as a solar pavilion and power deck capable of serving various purposes. Whether imagined as a tranquil retreat for relaxation, a social gathering spot, or even a gym, the OS1 can be tailored to meet diverse lifestyle needs. With dimensions varying from 12 feet by 12 feet to 12 feet by 24 feet, it has the potential to add up to 288 square feet of usable space.
Jiake Liu, co-founder and CEO, emphasizes the value of outdoor resources. "The land and sunlight outside our homes are two of our most valuable, yet underutilized resources," he says. By utilizing solar technology in a stylish pavilion format, Outer Spaces aims to inspire homeowners to harness the energy around them without compromising the visual appeal of their properties.
Technology Meets Elegance
Traditionally, residential solar power solutions have been relegated to unattractive panels affixed to rooftops or bulky battery systems cluttering garages. Outer Spaces aims to change this perception with their OS1 model—feature-rich, aesthetically pleasing, and far from industrial in design. Its solar panels generate energy overhead, while an innovative battery storage system discreetly integrates beneath the outdoor deck.
Terry Lin, Chief Design Officer and co-founder, notes how design has been overlooked in the solar industry. "Having personal experiences with cumbersome solar installations led us to merge energy solutions with architectural design to create backyard structures that homeowners desire," Lin explained.
Installation that Breaks the Mold
OS1 is crafted for simple assembly, dramatically reducing the complexities often associated with traditional outdoor construction. Its modular design permits it to be set up with minimal excavation, avoiding the common pitfalls of prolonged installation times, noise, and extensive disruption. As a result, OS1 presents itself as not just a product, but as a new experience in outdoor living and energy efficiency.
Starting in 2027, Outer Spaces plans to launch the OS1 system in Southern California and select markets. Homeowners will be able to configure their systems online, providing a seamless purchasing process. During the launch period, the company intends to unveil the system to industry stakeholders and the public at the RE+ 2026 exhibition scheduled for November.
The configurations of OS1 will offer impressive solar power generation ranging from 2.4 kW to 5.3 kW, alongside battery storage capabilities of 15 to 60 kWh, effectively making it a self-sufficient energy source for portions of a home's daily requirements.
Looking Ahead: A New Era of Backyard Experience
By combining his engineering expertise with a passion for design, Jiake Liu's vision for Outer Spaces is ambitious yet achievable. As the landscaping and solar industries evolve, the emergence of products like OS1 highlights an increasing trend towards sustainable living, where residential energy systems are no longer unsightly fixtures of functional necessity but beautiful enhancements contributing to an enriched lifestyle.
With an initial fundraising of $8 million from key investors, including Upfront Ventures and others, Outer Spaces is set to make waves not only in the area of outdoor design but also in how we conceptualize energy generation in our living environments. The potential for these energy-producing pavilions could signal a transformative shift in the solar market and how homeowners engage with energy usage outdoors.
