APP Japan Welcomes Students to Explore SDGs
APP Japan, headquartered in Tokyo, has been actively engaging students through educational programs that focus on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). From May to July 2025, the company hosted a total of 161 students from 17 different schools at their headquarters, marking a total of 33 schools that have participated in corporate programs since a couple of years ago.
The program commenced with the Chairman and President, Tan Wei Siyang, delivering a welcoming address. Following this, the company's sustainability officers introduced the products and production processes of the Asia Pulp and Paper (APP) Group that are available in Japan. They explained the innovative paper-making approaches that APP is implementing in alignment with the SDGs.
Among the highlights was the presentation on the “Forest Regeneration Project – Let's Work Together on the SDGs!”, a unique initiative undertaken by APP Japan in collaboration with Universal Paper (also based in Tokyo). This project aims to restore natural forests in Japan, showcasing products from participating companies that align with these sustainability efforts.
Towards the end of the program, a Q&A session allowed students to engage in discussions, posing questions across various topics such as environmental issues, career opportunities, and work lives. This interaction highlighted the interests of the next generation and provided a meaningful exchange of ideas. Participants received gifts including UP-branded tissue products and logo stickers, which served as mementos from the experience.
Throughout the program, students displayed an eager attitude, actively participating in discussions alongside their teachers, who also posed insightful questions. This enriching environment stimulated APP Japan employees present during the sessions, marking the event as a highly valuable occasion.
Moving forward, APP Japan remains committed to fostering awareness and supporting the achievement of the SDGs via such corporate visitation programs. The company aims to create more opportunities where both the youth and the corporate world can learn and grow together in a sustainable framework.
