GI Partners to Acquire Digita Group, Expanding Nordic Telecommunication Infrastructure
Digita Group to Be Acquired by GI Partners
HELSINKI, December 2, 2025 – In a strategic move aimed at expanding its foothold in the Nordic telecommunications sector, Digita Group, which operates as Digita Oy in Finland and IslandsTurnar in Iceland, has announced that it has reached an agreement with GI Partners for its acquisition. This development marks a significant step for both companies, particularly as Digita is recognized as one of the largest independent and diversified tower companies in the Nordics, maintaining a comprehensive tower portfolio across Finland and Iceland.
Digita has become a crucial component of Finland's telecommunication landscape, thanks to its long-standing collaboration with Yle, the nation’s public broadcaster. This partnership exemplifies Digita’s commitment to providing quality broadcasting services while further enhancing its market presence. Since 2018, Digita has been under the ownership of funds managed by DigitalBridge Group, Inc., which has facilitated its evolution into a leading diversified tower and broadcast infrastructure service provider. Under DigitalBridge’s stewardship, Digita has expanded from roughly 200 tower sites to over 950. Additionally, the company has made strides in its Data Centre operations and Internet of Things (IoT) platforms, demonstrating a robust growth trajectory.
Vesa Tykkyläinen, CEO of Digita, expressed his gratitude towards DigitalBridge for their invaluable resources and guidance during the period of their partnership, stating, "We are extremely grateful to DigitalBridge for the resources and expertise they have provided throughout their investment. Their support has been instrumental in positioning our business for further growth. We are excited about the new partnership with GI Partners and look forward to jointly achieving our ambitions."
GI Partners, a well-established private investment firm, is poised to lead Digita into its next phase of growth. Matt Barker, Head of Europe at GI Partners, shared his enthusiasm regarding the investment, emphasizing the potential for significant expansion in both telecommunications and data services. He noted, "We recognize the vital role that Digita plays in providing essential communication and connectivity services to the people of Finland and Iceland. We see great opportunities to further develop the platform as an independent tower company and operator of premium data centres and IoT networks."
As part of the agreement, Digita will retain its independence while leveraging GI Partners' extensive resources and expertise to enhance service delivery and accelerate growth further. This arrangement is expected to benefit Digita's clients profoundly, maintaining the high standards that have characterized its operations.
The transaction is anticipated to finalize in the first quarter of 2026, setting the stage for an exciting new chapter for both companies. Notably, Houlihan Lokey acted as the exclusive financial advisor to DigitalBridge, with Linklaters providing legal counsel, while EY served as the commercial and financial adviser. Rothschild & Co. advised GI Partners, with Kirkland & Ellis acting as their legal advisory team.
