BUMA Partners with Adaro for Long-Term Operations at South Tutupan Mine

Overview

On February 23, 2026, PT Bukit Makmur Mandiri Utama (BUMA), a key subsidiary of PT BUMA Internasional Grup Tbk, announced a major contract with PT Adaro Indonesia. This agreement solidifies BUMA's role in operating the South Tutupan Mine in Tanjung Tabalong, South Kalimantan, from April 1, 2026, through December 31, 2030. This partnership marks a significant milestone, expanding BUMA's contracted revenue base and ensuring stable earnings for the years to come.

Contract Details

Under the new contract, BUMA is tasked with removing approximately 239 million bank cubic meters (bcm) of overburden and extracting 44 million tonnes of coal over the contract’s lifespan. This translates to an annual average of about 50.5 million bcm of overburden removal and 9.3 million tonnes of coal production. The contract not only strengthens the long-standing collaboration between BUMA and Adaro, which has lasted over two decades, but also enhances BUMA’s operational capabilities and position within Indonesia's mining industry.

Ronald Sutardja, President Director of BUMA, expressed enthusiasm regarding the contract, highlighting it as a testament to the company's consistent performance and ability to manage complex mining operations safely and responsibly. Sutardja noted that this partnership not only assures earnings but also reinforces BUMA's reputation as a reliable mining services provider in Indonesia.

Commitment to Community Development

BUMA's operations at the South Tutupan Mine extend beyond mining; the company is deeply committed to the empowerment of local communities in the Tabalong region. The commitment includes numerous programs focused on education, health, environmental protection, and socio-cultural initiatives. Key initiatives include:
  • - JIKAMAKA Computer Skills Workshop: Aimed at improving digital literacy among local youth.
  • - Youth Broadcasting Class: Designed to foster skills for careers in the creative industries.
  • - Kampung Iklim Environmental Program: A project dedicated to promoting environmental awareness and sustainability.
  • - Support for Local SMEs: By enhancing the operational capacities of small and medium enterprises (UMKM) within the region.

As a result of these initiatives, BUMA has received recognition from both the South Kalimantan Provincial Government for its environmental efforts and from local authorities for advancing community development. The Tabalong Regent has particularly praised BUMA's contribution to local youth and community programs, emphasizing the positive social impact of their work.

BUMA International Group's Broader Mission

Founded in 1990, PT BUMA Internasional Grup Tbk operates across multiple sectors, including mining services and technology development. BUMA, as one of the largest mining services companies in Indonesia, plays a crucial role in the group’s success by providing reliable mining services to top coal producers in the region.

In addition to mining operations, BUMA has diversified its portfolio, including a recent foray into the ownership of mines which positions the company as a significant player in the ultra-high-grade anthracite market in the United States.
