About Shimonoseki Shunpanro
Founded by the first Prime Minister of Japan, Hirobumi Ito, the Shimonoseki Shunpanro has a storied history. Since its establishment in 1888, the restaurant has proudly served as the first licensed purveyor of fugu cuisine in Japan. The location gained international recognition when it served as the venue for the signing of the Treaty of Shimonoseki, which ended the First Sino-Japanese War in 1895.
Throughout the years, the establishment has hosted numerous notable guests, including Emperor Showa and Empress Kojun in both 1958 and 1963, cementing its reputation as a beloved hospitality venue in Shimonoseki.
The Scenic View
Shunpanro's main branch offers breathtaking views of the Kanmon Strait, a historical battleground in the Genpei War and the Meiji Restoration. Guests can savor local fugu delicacies while enjoying the stunning scenery that has surrounded the restaurant for generations. Now, with locations in Osaka and Tokyo, the authentic taste of Shimonoseki is more accessible than ever.
