A Strategic Partnership for Resilient Community Development in Japan

Partnership for Local Revitalization

On March 11, Green Energy & Company, based in Tokyo and Tokushima, announced a strategic collaboration with Kamiyama Marugoto Technical College, operated by the Kamiyama School Corporation. This partnership aims at bolstering resilience and establishing a model for local capital circulation, focusing on innovative solutions for community recovery and sustainability following the challenges posed by the Great East Japan Earthquake.

15 Years After the Disaster: Redefining Our Vision

Reflecting on the past 15 years since the East Japan Earthquake, we are compelled to question what lessons we've truly learned. This disaster laid bare the fragility of our energy systems and the impotence of rhetoric surrounding recovery. In the wake of this tragedy, we have relentlessly sought to reevaluate our approach to energy, economics, and the essence of community protection. As a company rooted in Tokushima, we have developed diverse infrastructure projects—from grid-compatible storage batteries to solar energy solutions—leveraging renewable energy for sustainable growth. Today, we partner with Kamiyama Marugoto College to redefine the prospects of local communities based on our hard-earned experiences.

Moving Beyond Language: Updating the Concept of Local Revitalization

While we deeply respect the fervent efforts aimed at invigorating local regions, we also feel the term 'local revitalization' has taken on a heavy connotation over the past decade. Wonderful slogans alone do not ensure the strengthening of local industries or the increase of income and population. Our focus lies not in the mere articulation of 'local revitalization' but in fostering tangible results where communities are thriving and self-sustainable. We prioritize creating:
  • - New industries,
  • - Mechanisms for circulating funds within the region,
  • - Environments that encourage youth to take on challenges.

Only through these initiatives can we genuinely revitalize local areas. Our goal is to work towards a scenario where communities can thrive independently instead of merely discussing revitalization.

Transforming Challenges into Opportunities for Co-Creation

The partnership emerged as a solution that integrates the challenges and potentials faced by both parties. Kamiyama Marugoto College, which consistently attracts visitors from nationwide, is grappling with a lack of accommodation capacity. Conversely, we offer space solutions through our trailer house 'ASOBOX' and resources to optimize renewable energy. By merging these strengths, we forge a multi-faceted approach capable of addressing structural issues faced by rural Japan, not just lodging shortages.

Through this partnership, we aim to deliver three primary values:

1. Implementation of Resilience and Business Continuity Planning (BCP)

We will establish an off-grid model by installing the 'ASOBOX' trailer houses as residences and therapeutic spaces, thereby creating quick, comfortable living environments. Simultaneously, we will deploy our solar energy and battery technologies to enhance energy management on campus and throughout the local area. This not only boosts everyday amenities but also transforms them into resilient infrastructure that is ready to operate autonomously in emergencies, safeguarding the lives and economy of local residents.

2. Experiential Learning: A Practical Educational Environment

Students will engage directly with our energy management practices. By constructing a revenue-generating model centered around renewable energy and learning from case studies where modern technology addresses social issues, we aim to cultivate a spirit of entrepreneurship among the next generation.

3. Establishing a Circular Model for Local Economic Independence

We will create investment models connecting urban capital with local asset formation, establishing systems where sustainable revenues benefit the region. This partnership aspires to be a successful model for private-sector-driven local economic independence, aiming for comprehensive solutions to the challenges faced by rural areas in collaboration with local governments in the future.

Comments from Stakeholders

Mr. Tomohiro Terada, Chairman of Kamiyama Marugoto College: "We aspire to create a genuinely autonomous community beyond the jargon of local revitalization. I wholeheartedly support the vision set forth by President Suzuki and Green Energy & Company and am thrilled to embark on this endeavor together. Our institution, dedicated to leveraging technology and design to transform human futures, relies on the rich resources of Kamiyama Town and Tokushima. This partnership is not merely about increasing infrastructure but is a significant step toward achieving a sustainable local economy, propelling our educational mission forward. Together with Green Energy & Company, we will instigate change from Kamiyama, impacting Japan at large."

Mr. Takafumi Suzuki, President of Green Energy & Company: "Encountering the vulnerabilities of energy and the disillusionment stemming from mere rhetoric surrounding recovery marked the beginning of our journey 15 years ago. While we have supported individual autonomy through solar and battery technology, structural issues resulting from continuous cycles of 'destroy and rebuild' persist. Our 'ASOBOX' technology addresses this reality. It serves as a 'profit-generating asset' during normal times while acting as a protective 'shield' in a crisis, delivering energy and comfort in moments of need. This partnership goes beyond educational assistance; it is a vigorous strategy to implement a model of local economic self-sufficiency alongside the young talents at Kamiyama Marugoto College. Since that day 15 years ago, we are poised to reignite our efforts from Kamiyama to rejuvenate Japan once again."

Green Energy & Company's Commitment

Green Energy & Company remains committed to fostering an ecosystem where individuals take the initiative in generating solar-based energy, leading to a life enriched by green energy without electricity bills. We focus on transforming energy creation into assets with private power plants, grid-tied battery storage systems, and zero-energy homes across Japan, maintaining a track record of over 5,400 development projects (as of March 2026). In November 2024, during the COP29 climate conference held in Azerbaijan, President Suzuki advocated for 'Micro GX' emphasizing bottom-up approaches involving households and small businesses as a powerful means of achieving Green Transformation (GX). Our continuous offering and development of services ensure that the benefits of new energy reach as many people as possible.
