2026 Kansai Area Living Preference Ranking Reveals Top Neighborhoods

Insights into the 2026 Kansai Living Preference Ranking

Daito Kentaku Co., Ltd. has conducted its largest ever residential satisfaction survey and compiled the "2026 GoodRoom Living Preference Ranking for the Kansai Area." This extensive research highlights the most sought-after neighborhoods in the Kansai region based on the feedback of residents from various demographics.

Key Findings from the Ranking

The top neighborhood in the station ranking remains Umeda A for the fourth consecutive year, encompassing areas such as Osaka Umeda and Kitashinchi. Closely following are Nishinomiya Kitaguchi, located in Nishinomiya city, and Kobe Sannomiya A. Notably, Nishinomiya and Namba A made remarkable entries into the top 10 after previously being outside the rankings.

Neighborhood Preference Trends

In terms of municipalities, Nishinomiya city has impressively held the top spot for the eighth year in a row. Tokyo's 23 wards ranked second, while the North Ward of Osaka city moved up to third place. Notable upward trends can also be observed in the rankings of Central Osaka, and Ashiya city, which have joined the top 10 after significant improvements.

An insightful aspect of the survey indicates that a remarkable 77.3% of respondents expressed satisfaction with their current living environments, highlighting a relatively high tendency to appreciate their neighborhoods. For many, the allure of these preferred communities stems from their exceptional living conditions, ease of commute, and aesthetic appeal.

Reasons for Neighborhood Preference

The primary motivations for selecting the top neighborhoods revolve around convenient transportation options, accessibility to necessary amenities, and desirable environments. Conversely, concerns regarding high living costs and inconvenient commuting conditions are frequently cited as reasons for rejecting certain areas.

As anticipated, age plays a pivotal role in neighborhood preferences, with younger participants (20-50 years old) favoring the bustling Umeda area, while respondents over 60 showed a preference for Nishinomiya Kitaguchi, reflecting a demographic trend towards quieter, yet accessible locations.

Detailed Demographics and Survey Methodology

The survey included 29,921 individuals residing in regions of Osaka, Hyogo, Kyoto, Nara, Shiga, and Wakayama, conducted from February 10 to March 22, 2026. The respondents consisted of a diverse demographic, with 53.6% identifying as male and 46.4% as female.

The methodology employed in this extensive survey involved a free-word response method allowing participants to select preferred municipalities or stations from a display of several choices, ensuring that the gathering of insights was as accurate and varied as possible.

Conclusion

Ultimately, this year's "Good Room Living Preference Ranking 2026" not only highlights which areas in Kansai are favored for living but also offers substantial insights into what makes a neighborhood appealing. Transportation convenience, community standards, and aesthetics play critical roles, painting a comprehensive picture of urban life aspirations in the Kansai region.
