UnionPay International (UPI), a leader in global payment solutions, has officially launched an exclusive promotional offer in collaboration with InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG). This initiative is designed specifically for international UnionPay cardholders visiting mainland China, providing them with immediate discounts of up to 15% on hotel bookings.

About the Promotion

From June 10 to October 31, 2025, travelers using UnionPay credit cards issued outside of China will be eligible for these discounts at over 500 participating hotels across the country. Bookings can be made through the official IHG website or the IHG One Rewards Mobile App. It’s important to note that the discount applies only when UnionPay is used as the payment method at checkout.

For UnionPay cardholders from South Korea or those holding the SplendorPlus Credit Card, a 15% discount is available, saving up to 400 RMB. For all other international cardholders, a 10% discount can be applied, with a maximum saving of 200 RMB.

IHG oversees a portfolio of more than 20 hotel brands globally, including luxurious and lifestyle hotels such as Six Senses Hotels, Resorts & Spas, Regent Hotels & Resorts, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, and InterContinental Hotels & Resorts. Premium brands participating in the promotion include Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts, EVEN Hotels, HUALUXE Hotels & Resorts, and voco. For travelers seeking mid-range accommodations, Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express properties are also part of the promotion.

With over 800 hotels in mainland China, IHG boasts more than 530 properties accepting UnionPay online payments, allowing for seamless transactions for international visitors.

UnionPay's Expanding Network

UnionPay has made significant progress in expanding its reach. The organization has issued over 200 million UnionPay cards in 83 countries and regions, enabling cardholders to enjoy real-time currency conversion and avoid excessive foreign transaction fees while traveling. UnionPay codes are supported by many well-known mobile wallets abroad, simplifying the payment process and eliminating the need for additional app installations.

Moreover, international cardholders can link their UnionPay cards to popular payment platforms like Alipay or WeChat Pay to take advantage of discounts without incurring extra charges.

In its ongoing development strategy, UnionPay launched the SplendorPlus card last year, aimed explicitly at overseas visitors. This card offers a variety of benefits, including airport conveniences in China, access to popular tourist attractions and cultural events, local restaurant promotions, and even a 1% cash back on eligible expenditures within mainland China. Currently, the SplendorPlus program includes participation from 56 institutions across 20 foreign markets, with over 10 million cards already in circulation.
