Eurelectric Unveils Five Commitments to Assist Homeowners in the Energy Transition

Supporting Residential Customers: Eurelectric's Five Commitments

On June 4, 2025, Eurelectric, representing European electricity suppliers, announced five pivotal commitments aimed at empowering residential customers during their energy transition journey. With a focus on smarter communication, increasing awareness, enhancing energy efficiency, providing user-friendly tools, and promoting flexible consumption, these commitments were developed based on insights from a comprehensive customer survey aimed at understanding their needs better.

The energy transition necessitates the active involvement of every consumer, and electricity suppliers are determined to ensure that no one is left behind. By integrating electrical solutions into their daily lives, residential customers can play a proactive role in this transition, reaping multiple benefits. However, these potential advantages remain largely untapped; Eurelectric aims to change this with new support measures.

In 2020, the electricity sector pledged to empower 300 million residential consumers by offering affordable, transparent, and easy-to-use solutions. In light of the significant shifts brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ukraine conflict, and rising energy prices, Eurelectric commissioned a new survey, engaging over 2,000 consumers across 12 countries, in addition to feedback from suppliers and roundtable discussions. The findings revealed a high level of awareness among consumers, but limited adoption of electrified solutions. Although 80% of respondents are taking measures to reduce their emissions, only 23% have adopted electrified solutions.

Kristian Ruby, Secretary-General of Eurelectric, remarked, "The energy crisis has led to short-term savings, but not sufficient long-term changes. To accelerate electrification, we must ensure that all consumers feel supported by reducing initial costs and simplifying processes."

In response to these findings, the electricity sector has committed to the following actions:

1. Smarter Communication: Providing personalized, multilingual advice and real-time alerts to customers.
2. Consumer Engagement: Involving all consumer segments, including vulnerable groups, renters, and those with digital exclusion.
3. Enhanced Energy Efficiency: Offering personalized advice, smart tools, and support for renovations to improve energy efficiency.
4. Simplified Energy Services: Creating intuitive applications, automated tools, and better access to energy products for consumers.
5. Encouraging Demand Flexibility: Implementing measures that enable consumers to save on costs while supporting grid resilience.
