Cultivating Career Awareness Through Experiential Programs for Middle School Students

On October 24, 2025, Kyoritsu Maintenance Co., Ltd., a company known for operating the Dormy Inn business hotels, will host a career exploration program called 'DOMINISTA CHALLENGE' at Lavista Furano Hills. This initiative targets students at Furano City’s Furokugo Elementary and Junior High Schools and aims to foster their understanding of various professions.

What is the 'DOMINISTA CHALLENGE'?

Since 2019, the 'DOMINISTA CHALLENGE' has been welcoming middle and high school students to participate in a hands-on work experience program at hotels across Japan. This program allows participants to interact with guests at the front desk and engage in essential hotel duties like cleaning and bed-making. Through these activities, students will not only learn about the underlying aspects of work and the sentiments of people who serve but also appreciate the importance of contributing to their community. In today’s globally connected world, this experience promotes 'multicultural coexistence', providing valuable lessons for the youth. To date, over 70 schools, including 22 from Hokkaido and Tohoku regions, have expressed interest in including this as part of their career education curriculum.

Program Details

  • - Objective: To equip students with essential attitudes and knowledge necessary for future employment while deepening their understanding of career choices.
  • - Date: October 24, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM
  • - Activities:
- Lecture: Discussion on the hospitality industry, the joy and appeal of working in hotels, and the nuances of customer service.
- Hands-on Experience: Students will learn front desk etiquette and experience customer service first-hand. They will also gain insights into facility management, room cleaning, and preparations for the public bath opening.

Students’ Voices from Furokugo Elementary and Junior High School

When thinking about their future, participating students expressed interest in roles that provide comfortable spaces for guests. One student mentioned, "I would like to learn about hotel workers’ dedication and behind-the-scenes efforts that are usually unseen. Through this learning experience, I want to identify my own thoughts about work and explore what I can do now."

Comments from Yoji Ouge, General Manager of Lavista Furano Hills

The essence of hotel work is rooted in the desire to provide a comfortable space for our guests. The preparations and attention to detail that often go unnoticed are, in fact, vital to the hospitality industry. The joy we derive from witnessing our guests' smiles is unparalleled. I encourage the participants to discover their unique ways of service and how to bring joy to others through their experiences.

Background and Future Outlook of the Program

In an age characterized by economic uncertainties, career education that allows young people to experience work’s significance and joy is essential. With a declining population, fostering a sense of attachment to one’s birthplace and developing individuals who actively tackle local issues are pressing needs. Through this program, our aim is to provide children with opportunities to cultivate empathy and joy in work while instilling a love for their community, hence gearing them towards actions that will positively shape the future of local societies.
