Aramco and Pasqal Unveil Middle East's First Quantum Computer and Service Platform

On May 18, 2026, a significant leap in technology was made in Saudi Arabia with the launch of the nation's first quantum computer. This groundbreaking event was spearheaded by Aramco, a renowned leader in the global energy and chemical sectors, in collaboration with Pasqal, an innovator in neutral-atom quantum computing. Notably, this initiative also marks the Middle East’s first commercial Quantum Computing as a Service (QCaaS) platform, promising to enhance regional capabilities and expedite the adoption of quantum technologies across various industrial sectors.

Located in Dhahran at Aramco's data center, the newly inaugurated quantum computer is designed to provide immediate, low-latency access to quantum hardware. This facility opens the door for potential clients around the globe to tackle complex industrial challenges via a secure cloud platform. During the official unveiling, Ahmad O. Al Khowaiter, Aramco's Executive Vice President of Technology and Innovation, emphasized the role of Saudi researchers, engineers, and scientists in reaching this milestone. He highlighted that the investment in training and research is crucial for nurturing world-class quantum expertise in the Kingdom.

Al Khowaiter stated, "This quantum milestone belongs to our Saudi researchers, engineers, and scientists. We are building world-class quantum expertise right here in the Kingdom—an expertise that will power the next generation of energy solutions." This focus aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to create future-ready jobs and foster an innovation-driven economy.

Pasqal’s CEO, Wasiq Bokhari, remarked on Aramco's proactive approach toward quantum computing. He articulated that the inauguration signifies that the most challenging industrial problems are now being addressed by Pasqal's advanced quantum processors and custom solutions. Furthermore, granting access to external organizations and research institutions broadens the scope for collaboration and innovation within the quantum space in the region.

Since November 2025, Pasqal's Quantum Processing Unit (QPU), which employs neutral-atom technology and consists of 200 programmable qubits, has been operational. This quantum system is now set to engage in a variety of industrial applications, fostering the exploration of quantum-enhanced solutions.

The partnership between Aramco and Pasqal will focus on advancing quantum-hybrid solutions, which are essential for addressing premier operational challenges, including optimization in port logistics, CO₂ storage, well placement, and rig scheduling. These efforts will ultimately aid in establishing a robust quantum workforce within Saudi Arabia and leveraging quantum computing to meet the needs of regional enterprises.

Additionally, Aramco's venture capital arm, Wa’ed Ventures, initially invested in Pasqal in early 2023 to promote the localization of advanced quantum technologies, thereby accelerating the development of the regional quantum ecosystem. Since their collaboration commenced, they have forged a structured program that targets high-value operational hurdles across various areas.

Reflecting on the collaboration, Bokhari conveyed that deploying Pasqal’s quantum systems at Aramco's business-critical operations, while also facilitating access to regional enterprises and research groups, resonates with their core mission. Through developing and integrating these quantum capabilities, they are enabling practical, secure, and scalable quantum computing solutions designed to meet the evolving demands of industries, science, and governmental institutions.
