Poland Invests $320 Million in Ascend Elements for Lithium-Ion Battery Factory

Poland’s Significant Financial Support for Ascend Elements

In a groundbreaking move, the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology in Poland has offered Ascend Elements up to $320 million to aid in the establishment of a manufacturing facility dedicated to sustainable precursor cathode active materials (pCAM) within the country. This generous grant, amounting to approximately 1.22 billion PLN, is touted as one of the largest subsidies ever provided by the Polish government for such initiatives.

This financial backing is part of the European Union's temporary crisis and transformation framework (TCTF) aimed at bolstering Europe's transition to a climate-neutral economy. The significance of this investment cannot be overstated, particularly as the world pivots towards electric vehicles and sustainable energy solutions.

Linh Austin, the President and CEO of Ascend Elements, emphasized the importance of this support in reinforcing the company’s growth strategy within Europe. He articulated, "This assistance from the Polish government is a major step forward in our European growth strategy. We are committed to building a sustainable battery materials supply chain on both sides of the Atlantic and are deeply appreciative of the Ministry's financial support."

Ascend Elements has already identified a location in Poland for the construction of its first advanced battery materials facility in Europe. During a recent meeting held in Warsaw, President Austin, alongside Michal Jaros, the Polish Secretary of State, finalized the support offer.

Dr. Pawel Pudlowski, Vice President of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency (PAIH), highlighted that battery projects form a vital component of the agency's investment portfolio. He stated, "The Ascend Elements project is among the largest U.S. investments in recent years. It enhances Poland’s role in the battery supply chain and encourages regional development, including technological advancement and collaboration with local educational institutions."

The new facility in Poland is expected to focus on innovative technologies to produce sustainable nickel, manganese, and cobalt (NMC) pCAM from recycled lithium-ion battery materials. Ascend Elements aims to lead in the production of sustainable materials essential for the electric vehicle industry.
