Sanyo Shokai Recognized as a Leader in Supplier Engagement by CDP 2024

Sanyo Shokai Achieves Recognition as a Supplier Engagement Leader

Sanyo Shokai, based in Shinjuku, Tokyo, has attained the highest recognition, "Supplier Engagement Leader", in the CDP's 2024 Supplier Engagement Assessment. This accolade underscores the company's dedication to addressing climate change through the management of its supply chain practices.

The CDP, an international non-profit organization, systematically evaluates corporate approaches to environmental issues, focusing specifically on climate action. The assessment considers five key categories: goals, supplier engagement, Scope 3 emissions, risk management processes, and governance in business strategy. Businesses that secure the top grade of 'A' within the eight-tier scoring system (ranging from A to D-) are designated as Supplier Engagement Leaders.

As a reflection of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, Sanyo Shokai also earned a 'B' score in the climate change category in the 2024 CDP questionnaire.

Sanyo Shokai's Sustainability Initiatives

Commitment to Reducing GHG Emissions

Starting in 2023, Sanyo Shokai has highlighted "Contributing to a Sustainable Global Environment" as a key materiality. The company aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions resulting from its business operations. Specifically, Sanyo Shokai is targeting a 52% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions from 2019 levels by 2030, and a 30% reduction in Scope 3 emissions, particularly in categories 1, 3, 4, and 12. Furthermore, the company aspires to achieve net-zero GHG emissions in Scope 1 and 2 by 2050.

GHG Reduction Through Factory Model Initiatives

To meet its Scope 3 goals, Sanyo Shokai routinely inspects its sewing factories, including the Aomori and Fukushima factories, to manage GHG emissions effectively. The company engages factory managers to identify challenges and develop reduction strategies. By sharing insights during company-wide information sessions, Sanyo Shokai promotes energy efficiency, operational enhancements, digitalization, and waste reduction initiatives among employees.

Commitment to the Entire Supply Chain

The company aims to create a sustainable framework by validating the achievements of its factory model initiatives and disseminating findings throughout the supply chain. Sanyo Shokai employs a Supplier Code of Conduct, which outlines the criteria for supplier assessment through third-party audits. This encompasses adherence to environmental regulations, participation in GHG reduction, and cooperation in meeting the company's standards for improvement.

Collaboration with Industry Associations for Climate Action

Sanyo Shokai has partnered with various organizations, receiving support from Japan's Ministry of the Environment for a project promoting the calculation and disclosure of GHG emissions over product life cycles. As a representative company of the Japan Fashion and Apparel Industry Association (JAFIC), Sanyo Shokai contributed to the drafting of industry-specific guidelines for GHG emission calculations in the fashion sector. The company has also engaged with new resource circulation platforms, such as CicroMate, which aims to efficiently recycle plastic waste from the apparel logistics supply chain.

Through these comprehensive efforts, Sanyo Shokai pursues its goal of addressing climate change across its entire supply chain and contributing to a sustainable society. The company remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting a sustainable future and enhancing its operations in alignment with these ideals.
