With over three decades of experience, he brings a robust background in technical, operational, and corporate leadership, particularly in gold mining. Chawrun's journey began as an exploration geologist, and since then, he has significantly contributed to various facets of the mining process, including permitting, construction, and operation of gold mines around the world.

Recent Accomplishments
Before joining i-80 Gold, Chawrun served as COO and Executive Vice President at Centerra Gold, where he led initiatives that improved safety standards, reduced operating costs, and oversaw the start-up of operations and expansions at three mining sites. His previous role as COO at Teranga Gold saw him transform the company from a single-asset operation into a multi-asset mid-tier gold producer in West Africa. Notably, he managed a mill expansion and the construction of a new mine while integrating high-grade projects into the company's portfolio.
Chawrun's career also includes key roles at renowned organizations such as Fording Inc. and Suncor Energy, as well as various positions within mine development companies, including Detour Gold, where he spearheaded the technical development of the Detour Lake project.

As he takes on his new role, Matthew Gili, the current President and COO, will transition out of his position while supporting Chawrun through the changeover.
