Reju Lands Major Funding to Launch Textile Regeneration Hub in Netherlands

Reju™, a forward-thinking company in the textile-to-textile regeneration sector, has successfully secured a remarkable €135 million in funding through the NIKI program, part of the Netherlands' National Investment Scheme for Climate Projects. This financial backing is set to empower the establishment of an industrial-scale Regeneration Hub located at Chemelot Industrial Park in Sittard-Geleen, a pivotal point in the company's strategy to revolutionize textile recycling.

Patrik Frisk, CEO of Reju, expressed his gratitude towards the Dutch Government and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate for endorsing innovative technologies aimed at reducing emissions while expediting the shift to a fully circular textile economy. He stated, "This award is a strong vote of confidence in our technology and our team." The hub at Chemelot promises to generate circular raw materials on a significant scale, reduce emissions throughout the textile supply chain, and serve as a replicable model for circular textiles across Europe.

The NIKI initiative represents the Dutch government's commitment to advancing large-scale industrial decarbonization and fostering circularity, aligning Reju's project closely with national and EU objectives. The innovative process developed by Reju takes difficult-to-recycle polyester textiles and converts them into high-quality intermediates suitable for new polyester production. This approach not only diverts textile waste from landfills and incineration but also aims to considerably lessen the ecological impact associated with textile disposal.

The forthcoming Regeneration Hub will focus on processing post-consumer textiles destined for waste, transforming them into Reju Polyester. This innovative material is expected to deliver approximately 50% lower carbon emissions compared to conventional virgin polyester. Once produced, the regenerated polyester can be reintegrated into supply chains, where it will be spun into yarns and fabrics designed for consumer use.

This ambitious project emphasizes the importance of industrial integration, energy efficiency, and reliable circular supply chains. By prioritizing the displacement of virgin fossil-based inputs, Reju sets out to create a transformative impact on the textile industry. Chemelot Industrial Park was strategically chosen due to its robust industrial ecosystem, which offers shared utilities, logistics capabilities, and proximity to cutting-edge research and innovation, ultimately facilitating a smooth operational start and the possibility of replicating this model at future sites.
