Don't Worry If It's Not Perfect: Join Our Shichi-Go-San Photo Contest!

Celebrate Shichi-Go-San with Fotowa's Fun Photo Contest!

In the spirit of supporting families preparing for Shichi-Go-San, the dedicated family and child portrait platform, Fotowa, is launching an exciting photo contest called #Uchinonashigosan Incident Report. This socially engaged contest invites parents across the nation to share their unique and heartfelt moments related to Shichi-Go-San, whether they are traditional poses or candid snapshots filled with laughter and joy.

The Shichi-Go-San (literally “Seven-Five-Three”) festival is a joyous occasion in Japan, marking the growth of children aged three, five, and seven. It’s a time for families to dress their children in traditional attire and celebrate these important milestones. However, the lead-up to the event can sometimes be filled with stress and uncertainty for parents. This is where Fotowa hopes to bring a little happiness and encouragement. By sharing their experiences, participants can illustrate the beautiful chaos that often accompanies this memorable day, reminding us that not every moment has to be perfect.

Contest Overview and Participation Details

The contest will run from October 27, 2025, to November 17, 2025. Parents who have previously celebrated Shichi-Go-San are encouraged to post their photos and stories on Instagram, Threads, and X (formerly Twitter). Participants can share various portrayals, including those candid moments where children may be goofy, playful or even a bit mischievous—everything that makes family memories unique.

To enter the contest, here’s what you need to do:
1. Follow Fotowa’s official social media account (@fotowa.jp on Instagram & Threads, @fotowajp on X).
2. Post your photos using the hashtags #fotowa and #Uchinonashigosan Incident Report, along with a caption sharing your story.

All kind of photos are welcome! Whether you’ve captured an adorable candid or a traditional family portrait, every image is a treasured memory. It can be a picture from a past Shichi-Go-San you celebrated or one captured with a Fotowa photographer, it’s about celebrating and sharing the journey of parenthood. The submissions will be judged by Fotowa's team of photographers and a special guest photographer.

Exciting Prizes Await!

The contest offers great incentives for participation:
  • - Grand Prize: One winner will receive a free photography session with Fotowa.
  • - Special Awards: Ten additional winners will receive a 5,000 yen discount coupon.

Winners will be notified via DM through Fotowa’s official social media accounts at the end of November 2025.

Comments from the Jury

The head judge for this contest is Hiroshi Masuda, an experienced photographer based in Japan. His approach to capturing childhood moments resonates with the essence of the contest:
“Children never stand still while you’re trying to photograph them. They might not smile as you wish or can get distracted easily. That’s what makes Shichi-Go-San so joyful - the unexpected moments that surprise you.”

Important Notes for Participants

Ensure you have permission to post any images featuring individuals, and any posts from private accounts without the required hashtags are ineligible. Also, participants should be aware that all submitted materials might be used for promotional purposes by Fotowa in various media platforms.
