Shibuya Celebrates the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics
In an effort to promote awareness and excitement for the upcoming Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics, Shibuya Ward (Mayor: Ken Hasebe) is preparing a supportive event from November 15 to 26. This initiative coincides with the nationwide caravan hosted by the All Japan Deaf Association, which aims to foster a greater understanding of the Deaflympics across all 47 prefectures in Japan.
The caravan is making its way toward the bustling city of Tokyo, and as part of this initiative, it will make a stop at the Civil Garden, located adjacent to the Shibuya City Hall. This event not only serves as a platform for raising awareness about the games but also promotes engagement with Deaf culture and sign language.
Since last year, Shibuya Ward has undertaken numerous activities to raise awareness of the Deaflympics. These include visits to schools by Deaf athletes, hosting talk events, and creating educational panels for rental. The main events of the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics will take place at the Tokyo Gymnasium located in Sendagaya, Shibuya, including the opening and closing ceremonies as well as table tennis competitions.
This event represents an invaluable opportunity to expand support for the Deaflympics and to involve the local community in this unique sporting event. Shibuya Ward perceives sports not merely as a competitive endeavor but as a means to connect, observe, and support through various activities. They aim to foster a sense of community spirit among residents while encouraging engagement with the Deaflympics.
