Chalk Artist Ayumu Displays Artistic Journey in Shibuya's 'TRACE' Exhibition

'TRACE' Exhibition by Chalk Artist Ayumu

The Crown Production Inc., based in Shibuya, is set to host the 'TRACE' exhibition featuring chalk artist Ayumu from July 3rd to July 12th, 2026, at Shibuya Modi's B1 floor. This event will showcase approximately 20 original works, primarily centered around chalk art, complemented by masking tape and paper-cutting techniques.

Among the highlights of the exhibition are works submitted to international art fairs, including pieces displayed in Paris. One of the key visuals, 'Singular Light,' created for an event at Shibuya Hikarie, will also be on display, offering a comprehensive look at Ayumu's artistic journey.

Visitors will have the opportunity to purchase some works from the exhibition, including Giclée prints that replicate the original artworks in high detail, as well as original merchandise such as T-shirts featuring Ayumu’s designs. The exhibition is not just about viewing finished art; attendees can also enjoy live painting sessions where Ayumu will create art directly onto windows and mirrors throughout the venue. This live action allows for a unique glimpse into the creative process, showcasing temporary expressions that can only be seen during the exhibition dates.

The Meaning Behind 'TRACE'

The title 'TRACE' encapsulates both Ayumu's creative path and the physical traces left on each piece through the use of chalk and masking tape. Beginning in 2019 with a cafe mural, Ayumu has pursued a distinctive approach to art, layering different materials to create depth and dimension in his flat pieces. His works feature a monochrome palette enriched with vibrant colors and textures, all meticulously crafted by hand.

This exhibition aims to retrace Ayumu’s journey from his initial cafe mural to significant showcases in Shibuya and awards in global venues. The artworks range in size from large pieces about 830mm x 620mm to A4, celebrating milestones in his artistic development.

Experience Live Painting and More

Throughout the exhibition period, live painting sessions will take place where visitors can witness the gradual creation of new artworks. Each completed piece created during these live sessions, as well as the new expressions born from these moments, will add a dynamic aspect to the exhibition that attendees won’t want to miss. The artworks on the windows and mirrors will serve as temporary displays and photogenic spots for visitors to create lasting memories of their visit.

The dates and specifics of the live painting events will be updated regularly through official channels, so art lovers are encouraged to stay informed.

Bringing Art into Everyday Life

In addition to the exhibition, original works will be available for purchase, alongside Giclée prints that allow collectors to experience the unique qualities of the originals in a more accessible format. Though Giclée prints can usually be pre-ordered, a limited number will be available for immediate purchase at the venue. Original merchandise, including T-shirts featuring Ayumu's artwork, will also be available for fans and supporters.
