Significant Gains for Heartland Coca-Cola Workers
In a landmark decision, over 35 employees at Heartland Coca-Cola in St. Louis have ratified a new contract with an impressive 90% approval rate. The workers, represented by Teamsters Local 688, are celebrating a range of substantial benefits under this new agreement, which has been hailed as a significant victory for labor rights.
The contract, spanning five years, introduces an
18% wage increase, reduces health care costs, and safeguards retiree health benefits. Additionally, it includes a
doubling of shift differentials for those working extra hours, reflecting the union's commitment to bettering the welfare of its members.
Jeff Padellaro, Director of the Teamsters Brewery, Bakery, and Soft Drink Conference, expressed his pride in the achievements of the workers, stating, "This new agreement is a big win for these workers. Steve Stock, a chief shop steward and service technician at Heartland Coca-Cola, noted, "This is a solid contract that contains the highest annual raises in my 28 years at this company. We knew what we wanted and negotiations were productive and quick. Our nearly unanimous vote shows overwhelming support for this contract that honors our hard work."
