DH-Robotics Unveils the Future of Robotic Dexterity
DH-Robotics made waves at IROS 2026 in Pittsburgh by introducing the ADH-5-13, a pioneering five-finger dexterous hand equipped with 13 independently controllable active degrees of freedom (DOF). This sophisticated technology is set to revolutionize robotic manipulation across various applications, reflecting the company’s commitment to enhancing productivity through advanced dexterous designs.
Features and Innovations of ADH-5-13
The ADH-5-13 hand is designed with an anthropomorphic five-finger setup, where the thumb, index finger, and middle finger consist of three DOF each, while the ring and little fingers feature two DOF each. This configuration not only mimics human hand dexterity but also introduces ±15° lateral motion capabilities for the index and middle fingers, significantly broadening the range of multi-finger poses.
Weighing just 735 grams, the ADH-5-13 aims to achieve a perfect balance between dexterity and weight efficiency, boasting a maximum payload capacity of 20 kg when grasping an object. Its fingertip tactile sensing feature allows it to detect various parameters during manipulation, ensuring precision in task handling. Moreover, the hand can be equipped with additional sensing solutions, such as electronic skin and six-axis force/torque sensors, adding versatility to its utility.
Serviceability and Maintenance
One of the standout features of the ADH-5-13 is its serviceable design. Individual sensors and modules can be replaced independently without the need to disassemble the entire hand or a full finger, a system that enhances maintenance efficiency by 300%. This advancement not only reduces downtime but also lowers operational and maintenance costs, making it an ideal choice for various industrial applications.
Technological Architecture
The ADH-5-13 employs a fully direct-drive and backdrivable architecture, allowing for independent control of all 13 active degrees of freedom. With dual magnetic encoders at each joint providing precise position feedback, the hand achieves fingertip positioning repeatability of ±0.2 mm. This architectural design is built to support hybrid force/position control as well as compliant contact behavior, essential for intricate manipulation tasks.
The UDH-3-7: A Complementing Innovation
In addition to the ADH-5-13, DH-Robotics also showcased the UDH-3-7, a three-finger dexterous hand featuring seven active degrees of freedom. Built for strength and flexibility, it can accommodate a maximum load of 15 kg and has a fingertip force capacity of 50 N. The UDH-3-7’s design allows for a 180° rotation of the thumb, enabling various grasp configurations, making it an excellent choice for handling objects of different shapes and materials.
Portfolio Tailored for Diverse Tasks
DH-Robotics positions its robotic end effectors based on specific manipulation needs:
- - Two-finger end effectors for general gripping and grasping tasks.
- - Three-finger dexterous hands striking a balance between strength and dexterity.
- - Five-finger dexterous hands offering coordinated multi-finger manipulation for complex tasks.
Attendees at IROS can experience these innovations firsthand at Booth #1008 until September 30. The IROS 2026 conference runs from September 27 to October 1, offering a glimpse into the future of robotic manipulation technology.
