New Cloud Service for Managing Crew Certifications
In a strategic collaboration, Japan's AIS (Artificial Intelligence Systems) and NYK Line have embarked on a project to develop a new cloud-based service designed to streamline the management of crew qualifications and their expiration dates. This venture marks the second phase of their collaboration, following the successful release of a wage and benefits integration service in 2024.
As of now, the launch of this new service is targeted for autumn 2025, aiming to enhance operational efficiency within the maritime sector by providing a centralized platform for qualification management.
Background and Objectives
The management of crew certifications and the expiration of these qualifications is pivotal in ensuring safe maritime operations. However, traditional methods have often relied on manual processes and decentralized management, leading to inefficiencies and potential risks. Recognizing these challenges, AIS and NYK Line have teamed up to create a solution that allows for centralized management of qualification information directly within the TRANS-Crew platform.
The upcoming service will include features like automatic reminders for qualification renewals and a comprehensive history tracking functionality. This system aims to provide operational, vessel management teams, and crew members with real-time insights into qualification statuses, mitigating risks associated with expired certifications.
Key Features of the New Service
1.
Centralized Management of Certifications
All relevant qualifications, certifications, training history, and licenses will be unified in cloud storage, reducing information fragmentation and enabling efficient personnel management.
2.
Automated Expiration Reminders
The system will automatically notify crew members and respective managers as deadlines for renewals approach, effectively preempting operational risks related to oversight.
3.
Real-Time Information Sharing
Crew managers, operational staff, and the crew themselves will have 24/7 access to the latest qualification data, eliminating delays and gaps in communication.
4.
Easy Mobile Upload and Application
Crew members will be able to upload licenses and certifications directly via mobile devices, streamlining the workflow and minimizing reliance on paper-based processes.
5.
Integration with Existing Systems
The service integrates seamlessly with the current labor management system, TRANS-Crew, allowing users to utilize familiar interfaces while managing reminders on the same platform, thus lowering the risk of missing updates.
Future Prospects
With TRANS-Crew, AIS hopes to establish a comprehensive platform specifically designed for maritime personnel management. Future developments will focus on the automation of crew assignment planning linked to qualification details and the implementation of AI-driven analytic capabilities. This broadening of services aims to centralize processes like crew planning, labor management, allowance calculations, and qualification tracking within the TRANS-Crew platform, targeting enhanced operational efficiency and the modernization of maritime business practices.
Invitation to Bariship 2025
AIS will showcase this new service at the Bariship 2025 event in Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture, from May 22 to 24. Attendees interested in the service are encouraged to visit booth
BC-19.
Additionally, a seminar titled “Unlocking the Future of Domestic Shipping: Utilizing Cloud Platforms” will take place on May 23 from 10:30 to 11:00 at conference room C-2. We look forward to welcoming everyone at our booth!
