Upcoming Talk Event: Artists Growing Up with Games
Date: May 25, 2025
Location: YUGEN Gallery, Tokyo
Admission Fee: Free (Reservation Required)
YUGEN Gallery, a contemporary art gallery located in Omotesando, Tokyo, will host an engaging talk event titled "Artists Growing Up with Games" on May 25, 2025. This event coincides with the ongoing thematic exhibition "Literature in Dots,” which runs from May 16 to June 1, 2025.
The exhibition, co-organized with SOUYA HANDA PROJECTS, aims to re-examine the expression of games within contemporary art. Souya Handa, the curator and project leader, will guide discussions that delve into the relationship between art and gaming.
At the same time, a solo exhibition titled "Optical Strike" by artist Risako Kokubu, influenced by the Nintendo DSiWare "Ugo Ugo Memocam," will be taking place at CASHI in Asakusabashi, further emphasizing the growing intersection of video games and contemporary art. This simultaneous display reflects a trend as younger generations, who grew up with video games, are increasingly present in the art scene.
To foster a deep understanding of this phenomenon and to elaborate on the exhibitions at YUGEN Gallery and CASHI, we are excited to introduce renowned artist Kazuki Umezawa as the moderator for the talk. The event will feature notable artists including Risako Kokubu, Sosuke Ueta, Chiaki Kainuma, and Souya Handa, providing insights into their experiences and perspectives on how gaming has shaped their artwork.
