ASEAN Investment Survey Highlights
On March 27, 2026, a significant report released by Hainan International Media Center unveiled that over 70% of surveyed ASEAN enterprises acknowledge the strategic importance of Hainan as a pivotal platform for accessing the Chinese market. This announcement coincides with the 100-day anniversary of Hainan’s Free Trade Port (FTP) since the implementation of special customs operations on December 18, 2025.
Strategic Importance of Hainan
As businesses in ASEAN progressively shift their focus towards investment in Hainan, the survey reflects a growing enthusiasm for its potential. The findings indicate a transitioning mindset among ASEAN firms, moving beyond merely political criteria for investment to a thorough assessment of institutional operational viability. Companies now perceive Hainan FTP as a substantial institutional project rather than just a tax haven or industrial park.
The survey was conducted by the Hainan Daily Press Group in collaboration with Nanyang Siang Pau, a historic financial media outlet in Malaysia, via the Hainan International Media Center's ASEAN Liaison Center. It comprised data collected through online questionnaires and extensive field research conducted in November 2025, involving 106 companies from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, and Laos across various sectors like manufacturing, trade, logistics, and digital economy.
