Grand Opening of the New Blue Bottle Coffee Hakata Cafe
Blue Bottle Coffee Japan Co., Ltd. is thrilled to announce the grand opening of its new champagne-inspired Hakata Cafe on July 21, 2026, located right in front of Hakata Station at the Nishinippon City Building. This marks the second location in the Kyushu area, following the successful launch of the Fukuoka Tenjin Cafe in February 2024. The new cafe is designed to create opportunities for creating connections through the simple act of enjoying coffee, aiming to enrich the lively atmosphere of the city as it continues to grow.
The cafe's interior design embodies the concept of "connections expanding from a single cup" and has been skillfully crafted by Tatsuya Nishinaga of TEKI DESIGN, also known for his work on the Harajuku Cafe. Drawing inspiration from the dynamic topography of Fukuoka, the cafe features a coffee counter with gentle curves, mimicking the geography of the city. Guests can engage with a skilled barista who will carefully brew their coffee, while seating arrangements encourage a warm and inviting experience. Here, every drip creates ripples of connection among visitors, fostering a lively community atmosphere.
Guests can indulge in various beverages, from expertly brewed specialty coffee to delightful non-coffee options such as the popular Matcha Latte and seasonal favorites like Yuzu Lemonade Float, ensuring a comfortable experience for everyone. The food menu showcases a unique twist on Hakata's cuisine, featuring a special toast with mentaiko potato, using locally sourced bread from the well-loved Okuzoe Bakery, offering a taste that resonates with the region.
In addition, patrons will find a limited-edition collaboration item, the Rattan Mug, part of the TSUBAME series designed by GLOCAL STANDARD PRODUCTS, emphasizing the theme of "unchanging and unbiased." This exceptional piece combines high-quality materials to create an inviting aesthetic, perfect for enjoying a warm beverage.
The cafe stands as a gathering point where people come together, blending their unique experiences while contributing to the evolving landscape of Hakata. We sincerely hope this new venture will add color to the scene, echoing the sentiment that one cup of coffee can indeed circulate new connections.
Design Concept of Hakata Cafe
The space design for the Hakata Cafe is conceptualized around the idea of "connections expanding from a single cup,” featuring a flowing coffee counter that reflects the essence of a drop creating ripples. As guests move through the space, their interactions with coffee, seating, and baristas intertwine seamlessly, promoting a sense of community—all inspired by the natural layout of Fukuoka's terrain.
Incorporating local craftsmanship into the design, elements like Imari-yaki table surfaces and the renowned Naoshima washi paper on the walls allow guests to experience the unique cultural heritage of the region. This project aims to encapsulate the connections formed through a single cup of coffee, bringing unity among individuals and with the city.
Tatsuya Nishinaga commented, “As we create new landscapes that align with the origins of the space, I hope that the gentle flow of energy generated from each coffee drop helps shape the contours of the city around it.”
Exciting Menu Offerings
At the Hakata Cafe, guests can look forward to an array of beverages, including the innovative Kyoto-Style Espresso—a low-temperature extraction reminiscent of Kyoto's water-drip coffee culture. With a signature smoothness and balanced flavor, this espresso serves as the base for various refreshing iced drinks like the Ice Cafe Latte and Iced Mocha. Other exciting options include Yuzu Lemonade Float, which is ideal for the hot summer months, offering a delightful mix of yuzu flavor paired with sparkling sensations.
Food enthusiasts can explore the exclusive Mentaiko Potato Toast, which will uniquely represent Hakata's food culture, made with freshly baked bread from a local bakery. It's crafted to be the perfect accompaniment to Blue Bottle Coffee’s exquisite selection.
Limited Edition Items
As part of the special offerings, the Hakata Cafe will exclusively feature the Rattan Mug—a beautifully designed mug made in collaboration with GLOCAL STANDARD PRODUCTS. With a unique combination of stainless steel and a natural rattan handle, this mug exemplifies the marriage of functionality and aesthetic charm, perfect for both city settings and outdoor adventures.
As we approach the grand opening on July 21, 2026, we invite coffee aficionados and newcomers alike to experience the welcoming ambiance, the carefully curated beverage and food selections, and the celebration of Hakata's local flavors—all under the philosophy that every cup can create meaningful connections.
We eagerly await your visit to the Hakata Cafe, where coffee culture flourishes, and community bonds deepen.
