Enhanced Digital Connectivity for Military Families
Military families residing at Fort Eisenhower are set to experience significant improvements in their internet connectivity, thanks to the recent launch of
Fiber to the Home (FTTH) service by
Boldyn Networks. This initiative marks a vital upgrade in digital infrastructure, providing faster and more reliable internet access for the over
109,000 personnel, including family members and contractors, stationed at the base.
This major infrastructure project commenced with the installation of approximately
18.5 miles of fiber optics throughout Fort Eisenhower. Collaborating with the
Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) and
Balfour Beatty Communities, along with
E-community Fiber as the Internet Service Provider, the new fiber network aims to fulfill the evolving demands of military life. With a focus on enhancing quality of life, this upgrade not only benefits personal use of the internet but also supports essential services such as training, cyber operations, and medical care critical to military readiness.
Christos Karmis, the U.S. CEO of Boldyn Networks, emphasized the importance of reliable connectivity in military environments. He stated, “Reliable connectivity is essential for military readiness, and we're proud to deliver that with our fiber-optic network at Fort Eisenhower. But this goes beyond readiness—it's about supporting the people behind the mission. Military families deserve internet that works just as hard as they do.”
Fort Eisenhower serves as the home for the
U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence (CCoE), and it houses various signal and cyber regiments, reinforcing the necessity for robust digital infrastructure. The introduction of this fiber network not only enhances internet provider options for residents but also increases redundancy and capacity to meet diverse needs throughout the installation.
Sgt. Major
Dan Durrette conveyed enthusiasm about the upgrade, stating, “We’re connected, whether it’s our devices, our tv, connecting with family and friends across the world. So, getting updated to fiber to all the houses is going to be a tremendous uplift to the community. The community has been asking for this for some time now, so with AAFES and our private partners making this happen, bringing in team Boldyn—it's going to be awesome for the installation.”
The initial phase of the FTTH service is expected to benefit families residing in the
Lakeview Terrace, McNair Terrace, and
Olive Terrace neighborhoods, with an additional four neighborhoods slated to receive the service by the year’s end. In total, over
1,000 living units will be served by this enhanced internet capability, which will further extend to new homes currently under construction in
Pine Tree Terrace, anticipated to receive this connectivity by
2026.
