LUFAS Fabric Illuminated Signage Debuts at Haga Onsen in Tochigi Prefecture

Introduction

The innovative LUFAS fabric illuminated signage has made its debut at Haga Onsen, a charming hot spring facility located in Tochigi Prefecture. Manufactured by TONICHI, one of the world's largest newspaper printing companies, this signage is not just notable for its unique design; it is the only fabric illuminated sign in Japan to earn an Eco Mark certification.

The LUFAS Signage

LUFAS is built with a patented tension structure that allows users to easily replace the fabric within the signage. This feature significantly reduces both the initial production costs of the signage and ongoing expenses related to installation and replacement. Its ability to elegantly display vibrant colors has also earned it a spot among the Good Design Best 100 in 2019.

A remarkable aspect of LUFAS is its environmental friendliness: by using this fabric signage, manufacturers can achieve a 95% reduction in CO2 emissions during production when compared to traditional acrylic signage of the same size. This reduction is also made possible through a sophisticated sublimation printing technique, which allows the fabric to be folded compactly for eco-friendly transportation.

Environmental Impact

The fabric used in LUFAS signage is made from 100% recycled PET bottles and the frames consist of over 50% recycled aluminum material. Such features highlight its exceptional environmental performance as well as its disaster resilience, thus garnering interest from municipalities and corporations alike.

Successful Collaboration

The collaboration with Tochigi Direct Communications Co., Ltd., was the driving force for this installation at Haga Onsen. Located in the heart of Haga Town, known for its seasonal beauty and rich cultural history, the hot spring facility is beloved by local residents and tourists alike.

The LUFAS signage has been installed on the wall next to the restroom area at Haga Onsen, showcasing a vibrant oil painting called “O-sakana” — created by Yasuko Akutagawa, daughter of Haga Town painter Tane Fukuda. The piece, made from a mosaic of oil paint and eggshells, is illuminated from behind by LED lights, beautifully enhancing the atmosphere within the facility. Visitors have responded positively to this visually captivating installation, which significantly heightens the appeal of the artwork.

Customizable and Eco-Friendly

Aside from being environmentally friendly, LUFAS signage also offers a variety of options tailored to meet location-specific needs and requirements. Moving forward, TONICHI remains committed to listening to customer feedback and delivering customized signage solutions that cater to their specific preferences.
