Groundbreaking Initiative for Tourist Safety in Japan
INCLUSIVE Inc., located in Minato, Tokyo and helmed by CEO Makoto Fujita, is excited to announce that its innovative project utilizing positioning satellite technology for the enhancement of tourist safety in Shari, Hokkaido, has been shortlisted for the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications' "Digital Transformation Package Initiative for Local Communities". This initiative aims to tackle pressing regional issues amid declining populations and an aging demographic, thus contributing to a revitalization for local economies.
Understanding the Digital Transformation Package Initiative
The Digital Transformation Package Initiative seeks to address challenges arising from population decline, aging, and shifts in economic structures through the implementation of digital technologies, thereby enabling solutions for regional issues and advancing Local Revitalization 2.0. The Ministry promotes successful cases via support for cutting-edge wireless communication technologies, solution validation, and infrastructure development across the nation.
Project Details and Goals
This project will be executed in collaboration with AUTHENTIC JAPAN, a company known for enhancing safety in mountainous and marine activities, and it is headed by CEO Kazutaka Kuga from Fukuoka. AUTHENTIC JAPAN is well-regarded for its services—"CoCoHeli" and "CoCoHeli Marine"—which deliver rapid response to accidents or distress during outdoor excursions. There is a critical need for improved safety during activities such as trekking and sightseeing in the Shiretoko Peninsula, where mobile communication coverage remains sparse.
To address these risks, the project aims to create safety measures that ensure security during natural experiences, enhancing the appeal for tourists.
The solution includes establishing LPWA communication base stations, allowing tourists on boats and trekkers to carry GPS-equipped transmitters (CoCoHeli transmitters) that provide real-time location data. By employing Bluetooth technology, pinpoint searches can occur in case of emergencies, ensuring robust safety protocols for all outdoor enthusiasts.
This not only increases the safety and reliability of regional tourism but also leverages INCLUSIVE's expertise in communication to create and strengthen connections among local and outside stakeholders, bolstering the brand value of regional tourist destinations.
Future Developments
The tourist safety DX model developed in this project is expected to serve as a pioneering example that can be replicated in other regions with limited communication environments. Drawing from the outcomes of this initiative, the expansion is anticipated not just within Hokkaido but to other mountainous and remote islands across the nation, establishing safety as a new benchmark for tourism and enabling the spread of sustainable tourism models.
Furthermore, this project will utilize satellite data for positioning, leveraging analytical skills from LAND INSIGHT, a subsidiary of INCLUSIVE that possesses satellite data processing expertise, as well as its established network with municipalities, to develop tourism safety measures and natural disaster response services.
