GOL Airlines Initiates Direct Flights Between Brazil and Portugal

On March 19, 2026, GOL Linhas Aéreas, a prominent Brazilian airline, made a significant announcement regarding its expansion into international travel. The carrier is set to commence the sale of tickets for direct flights between Brasil's international airport, RIOgaleão (GIG) in Rio de Janeiro, and Lisbon's Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) in Portugal. The inaugural flight is scheduled for September 16, 2026, and will operate four times a week.

The flight schedule has been structured to facilitate seamless travel for passengers. Between September 16 and October 24, flights from RIOgaleão will leave on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 8:00 AM local time, arriving in Lisbon at 9:40 AM. On Fridays, the departure time shifts slightly to 8:05 AM, with arrival at 9:45 AM. From October 25, 2026, to March 27, 2027, there will be minor adjustments to these timings.

Passengers traveling from Lisbon back to Brazil will find evening flights more convenient. The departures will be scheduled for Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 11:30 PM, arriving in Rio de Janeiro the following morning at 5:30 AM. On Fridays, flights will leave Lisbon at 11:35 PM, landing in Brazil at 5:35 AM.

In addition to the announcement of the Lisbon flights, GOL recently expanded its horizons by introducing direct flights to New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), starting on July 8, 2026, with three weekly connections. Future routes are also in the pipeline for Paris Charles de Gaulle International Airport (CDG) and Orlando International Airport (MCO) in the USA.

The flights to Lisbon will utilize Airbus A330-900 aircraft, which can accommodate approximately 300 passengers, thus enhancing the travel experience by offering the INSIGNIA Business Class. This exclusive service includes premium amenity kits and access to select lounges at various airports. Ticket sales for these much-anticipated flights are now available through the GOL website and app.

With the introduction of these direct intercontinental flights, GOL Linhas Aéreas aims to strengthen its presence in the international travel domain, offering passengers more options for connecting the vibrant cultures of Brazil and Portugal. This move marks a new chapter in GOL's commitment to enhancing air travel and connectivity between continents.
