Timee's Initiative to Aid Rice Milling Factories
In response to the rising prices and supply shortage of rice, Timee Co., Ltd. has launched a new initiative to support rice milling factories throughout Japan. The program will temporarily waive service fees for its labor-matching service, known as "Timee," to address the urgent labor shortage in these factories.
Background on the Rice Supply Problem
Japan is currently facing challenges related to rice supply due to soaring prices and dwindling stocks. As part of the government’s strategy, rice reserves have begun to be sold through designated retailers, marking a significant step in managing the crisis. While the government is releasing its stockpiled rice, rice milling factories have reported overwhelming demand for their processing services, which has created bottlenecks in production.
In light of these developments, Timee aims to facilitate a swift supply of government-stocked rice to consumers. By optimizing the use of spot work through its platform, the company hopes to alleviate the human resources constraints faced by these essential businesses.
How Timee's Service Works
From November 2023, Timee has established a dedicated agricultural team to enhance the utilization of spot work within the agricultural sector. The platform will feature various job opportunities related to rice milling, including tasks such as feeding brown rice into milling machines, bagging processed rice, and managing shipment operations. Positive feedback from rice factories utilizing Timee indicates features of the service such as flexibility in labor and increased production efficiency. One factory reported, "By leveraging spot work, we have alleviated the burdens we faced, and experienced workers quickly adapted to our needs, improving productivity."
