Coushatta Tribe Expands with New Feather Fuel Travel Plaza

The Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana has announced the highly anticipated grand opening of its newest venture, the Feather Fuel Travel Plaza. Scheduled for October 30, 2026, this new travel hub is strategically located at a bustling intersection of Interstate 10 and Highway 165 in Iowa, Louisiana.

A Grand Opening Celebration

The grand opening event on October 30 is set to be a community affair, gathering local dignitaries, representatives from the Coushatta Casino Resort, and Tribal leaders. Attendees can expect a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a Tribal blessing, and remarks from Tribal Chairman David Sickey. This event marks a significant milestone as it not only highlights the Tribe’s expansion into the tourism sector but also reinforces their commitment to community service and economic growth in the region.

Location and Features of the Travel Plaza

Located on an 11-acre site, the Feather Fuel Travel Plaza spans 14,000 square feet. It features 24 gas pumps and seven dedicated diesel fueling lanes, catering to a wide range of vehicles. The site is designed with convenience in mind, providing essential services such as fresh food options, a drive-thru, snacks, beverages, and personal essentials. Notably, the plaza will offer diesel and ethanol-free fuel, along with a truck pad specifically for commercial vehicles.

Inside, the ambiance promises a friendly and inviting atmosphere with a variety of offerings. Visitors will find pizza, fountain drinks, coffee, and competitively priced selections of beer, wine, spirits, and tobacco products. The space is designed to be spacious and welcoming, making it an appealing stop for both locals and travelers.

Celebrating Culture and Community

The Feather Fuel Travel Plaza not only serves as a practical stop but also pays homage to the rich cultural heritage of the Coushatta Tribe. The design incorporates bronze accents, distinct Tribal motifs, and the Tribe’s signature colors, ensuring that the plaza reflects the history and culture of its people. This thoughtful approach promotes an engaging experience for visitors while underscoring the Tribe’s commitment to preserving their cultural identity.

Economic Growth and Development

The expansion into the travel plaza market is a vital part of the Coushatta Tribe’s broader mission. The establishment of Feather Fuel aligns with their goals of fostering regional economic growth and community development. Chairman Sickey expressed pride in launching this new business, indicating that it represents new opportunities for both the Tribe and the surrounding community.

“This project represents opportunity for our people, our employees, and the communities around us. We're excited to be part of the Iowa community and to provide a new destination for both local residents and travelers along this important corridor,” says Sickey in a statement.

The Feather Fuel Travel Plaza stands out as a significant addition to the region, aiming to cater to the needs of the traveling public while celebrating the legacy of the Coushatta Tribe. With its grand opening on the horizon, anticipation builds for what this new hub of convenience will bring to Iowa, Louisiana, and beyond.
