Kinokuniya Expands in Malaysia with New Store Opening
Kinokuniya Co., Ltd., led by President Yoshio Fujinori, is set to inaugurate its second bookstore in Malaysia on September 4, 2025. This new location will reside within the Pavilion Damansara Heights, a mixed-use commercial complex situated just outside Kuala Lumpur.
The Pavilion Group, a prominent developer in Malaysia, manages numerous condominiums, hotels, and office spaces. They are also known for operating Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, one of the country’s leading shopping centers located in the vibrant Bukit Bintang area. Likewise, Pavilion Damansara Heights aims to showcase a significant commercial project complete with offices and hotel facilities.
Located approximately 25 minutes from the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Damansara Heights is celebrated as one of Malaysia’s most prestigious residential districts. Encompassed by upscale neighborhoods, it is home to many expatriates, affluent locals, and artists, making it an ideal location for the new bookstore.
Kinokuniya originally landed in Malaysia in 1990 with its first store in Isetan Lot 10. Following this, the company opened a larger 860-square-meter store at Suria KLCC in 2001, located beneath the iconic Petronas Twin Towers. For the past 24 years, it has successfully cultivated a single-site operation, striving to create a beloved bookstore for local residents.
The new store is expected to provide easy access for customers from both Kuala Lumpur and the neighboring Petaling Jaya area in Selangor, welcoming an increased number of local patrons to enjoy its services.
