Nexus Core Systems Announces Plans for AI Factory in Morocco Using 500 MW Renewable Energy
Nexus Core Systems to Establish AI Factory in Morocco
In a monumental advancement for artificial intelligence infrastructure, Nexus Core Systems has announced its plans to build a state-of-the-art AI factory in Morocco. Supported by a global consortium that includes Lloyds Capital, NAVER Cloud, and Maroc Telecom, this ambitious endeavor marks a turning point in the country's industrial capabilities as it moves toward AI and robotics integration.
Geographical Advantage of Morocco
Strategically located just 15 kilometers from Europe and connected by multiple subsea fiber corridors, Morocco is set to provide a unique advantage in delivering sovereign compute capacity to European markets. The proposed AI facility will not only cater to local demands but also enhance cross-border capabilities, thereby positioning Morocco as a key player in the AI domain.
Advanced Infrastructure Development
The project plans to leverage cutting-edge accelerated computing, networking, and AI-native infrastructure, ensuring that it meets the high demands of modern AI applications. The data centers will be constructed using modular infrastructure technology, which allows for rapid deployment, scalable growth, and efficient maintenance, significantly reducing construction risks and minimizing the need for on-site labor.
The initial phase, slated for launch in Q1 of 2026, will feature over 40 MW of next-generation AI accelerators, making it one of the largest AI supercomputers in the region. The entire facility will be powered by a strategic agreement with TAQA Morocco, facilitating up to 500 MW of renewable energy to ensure sustainable and cost-effective operations.
Collaborative Efforts for Market Deployment
In collaboration with Nexus, NAVER Cloud plans to deploy its proprietary hyperscale cloud platform, featuring the CLOVA AI suite. This platform prioritizes a zero-trust security architecture alongside stringent data residency controls that comply with the legal frameworks governing data sovereignty across the EMEA region. Maroc Telecom will act as the principal go-to-market partner, spearheading distribution efforts within the public and enterprise sectors.
A Significant Leap for Technology Leadership
Chae Seon Ju, President of Strategic Business at NAVER, expressed the importance of this partnership: "This collaboration will be an important turning point for NAVER's cloud and AI technologies to expand into the European market. We aim to secure technological leadership in the rapidly evolving global AI landscape."
Conversely, Christopher Yoshida, CEO of Nexus Core Systems, emphasized the project’s potential to catalyze AI development across EMEA. He believes this initiative will create valuable societal spillovers, enhancing skills, fostering collaborations, and strengthening Morocco's position in the global AI ecosystem.
Implications for the Future of AI
The AI factory is anticipated to roll out services that encompass foundational model training, multimodal inference, robotics, autonomous learning, and high-performance data processing. By synergizing Nexus’s robust infrastructure with NAVER’s advanced AI capabilities, the facility will empower organizations to deploy innovative AI models that drive improved efficiencies and transformative use cases across various industries.
This groundbreaking project not only stands to revolutionize Morocco’s technological landscape but also signifies a major leap toward reinforcing the global AI value chain. The establishment of this advanced AI infrastructure promises to put Morocco on the map as a leader in sovereign AI initiatives, benefitting local industries as well as contributing significantly to the global technological advancements.
