Aichi Labor Bureau's Initiative to Tackle Rising Back Pain in Workforce

Aichi Labor Bureau's Initiative to Combat Rising Back Pain

On October 1, 2025, the opening day of Labor Safety Week, the Aichi Labor Bureau’s head of labor standards will visit the Biutec Chita office to assess the effectiveness of back pain prevention measures implemented by the company. The visit is part of a broader effort to enhance occupational safety and health amid rising incidents of work-related illnesses in Aichi during fiscal year 2023.

Reports indicate that Aichi saw a staggering 532 cases of work-related diseases (including absences that lasted four days or longer, as well as fatalities), marking an increase of 85 cases compared to the previous year (up 19%). Among these figures, occupational back pain stood out as the most prevalent, accounting for 313 cases, which represents about 3.9% of all reported workplace injuries totaling 8,126. In response to this disturbing trend, the Aichi Labor Bureau has chosen to spotlight Biutec, a company leveraging Bio-Net Research Institute’s automated work strain measurement system, PosCheck.

PosCheck: A Revolutionary Ergonomic Solution

Bio-Net Research Institute's PosCheck system employs 3D measurement AI cameras to identify high-risk work tasks linked to back pain by analyzing worker postures. The system automatically assesses working postures on a four-tier scale, facilitating the recognition of potential hazards. The technology has already proved invaluable across various sectors, including food, automotive, heavy machinery, electrical, and chemical industries.

New Measures Under Labor Standards Law Revisions

This past May, the Labor Safety and Health Act underwent amendments aimed at improving working conditions amid an aging workforce and labor shortages, which have exacerbated back pain risks, especially among women and diverse employee groups. This necessitates an urgent re-evaluation of work environments to mitigate health threats effectively.

The recently updated regulations have highlighted the importance of systems like PosCheck in identifying and mitigating risks of back pain and other related conditions. The updated version of PosCheck, incorporating the new posture count and cumulative time measurement software called 3D-ERGO, has been unveiled as PosCheck-102 to further enhance workplace safety and ergonomics.
