Sam Camens Takes Charge at CD&R

New Leadership Role

On February 5, 2025, Clayton, Dubilier & Rice (CD&R) officially announced the appointment of Sam Camens as the new Managing Director. This strategic move forms part of CD&R’s ongoing commitment to advancing its health and welfare strategy. In his role, Camens will not only oversee due diligence and investment activities but will also collaborate with management teams to enhance benefits programs tailored for employees within CD&R's diverse portfolio companies.

A Wealth of Experience

Sam Camens arrives at CD&R with an extensive background in insurance and employee benefits, most recently serving as Managing Director at Onex, a global alternative asset management firm. During his tenure at Onex, Camens played a pivotal role in advising both the firm and its operating companies in better managing their general insurance and employee benefits initiatives—experience that will be invaluable in his new role at CD&R.

Prior to Onex, he took on leadership responsibilities at Alterity Group, a consulting firm where he handled complex corporate integrations and strategic carve-outs for major private equity firms while also offering consulting services to healthcare and insurance sectors.

Vision for the Future

Orla Beggs, a partner at CD&R, expressed enthusiasm for Sam’s arrival, stating, “Sam is highly respected for his leadership in the employer health insurance space. Our investment and operating teams, as well as the leaders at our portfolio businesses, will gain immensely from his profound industry knowledge and strategic perspectives on employee benefits.”

Camens himself stated, “I was drawn to CD&R for its commitment to partnership, creativity, and operational excellence. I look forward to working alongside the CD&R team and its portfolio companies to accelerate their growth and create substantial value.” He also sees opportunities to collaborate within the firm’s Financial Services and Healthcare verticals to identify potential new investments and capture emerging commercial opportunities.

Early Career and Education

Sam’s professional journey began at Willis Towers Watson, where he was involved in strategy development and health benefits teams. In addition, he has served on boards—including a former chairmanship role at OneDigital, and is currently a board member of the Youth Renewal Fund. Academically, he holds both a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Bucknell University.
