What is 4v4?
4v4 soccer is a new format developed by soccer legend Keisuke Honda, created to further engage young players in the sport. Launched in 2023, this competition aims to provide every child in Japan the opportunity to experience soccer at an elite level. Each match consists of a single, ten-minute game, with free substitutions and a 20-second shot clock. Goalkeepers participate actively as field players, fostering an engaging and dynamic gameplay.
In the spirit of encouraging autonomy, there are no coaches or supervisors on the bench, and teams can continue to challenge themselves through a point system, allowing them multiple chances rather than a single elimination. The goal is to cultivate self-thought and action, essential skills for future success, thus identifying and nurturing the next generation of soccer stars in Japan.
