Zentiva’s 2025 Sustainability Report: A Commitment to Our World

Zentiva has unveiled its 2025 Sustainability Report, highlighting a significant year of progress towards fostering public health, guiding environmental initiatives, and adopting responsible business practices. As one of the leading European manufacturers of off-patent medicines, Zentiva firmly believes in the synergy between business growth and environmental responsibility.

In 2025, Zentiva showcased an impressive 10% reduction in emissions across its operations, aligning its growth trajectory with its commitment to sustainability. This effort comes alongside a notable increase in net sales and EBITDA, reaffirming that economic performance and environmental stewardship can indeed go hand in hand.

The company’s goals have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), which includes ambitious targets such as reducing total emissions (Scope 1, 2, and 3) by 63% by 2034 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Key Achievements in 2025

Zentiva has made remarkable strides in various areas:

  • - Renewable Energy Usage: In 2025, 83% of the electricity consumed by Zentiva was derived from renewable sources, with a remarkable 100% on its production sites within the EU.
  • - Water Recycling: The volume of water recycled and reused has nearly doubled between 2021 and 2025, demonstrating Zentiva’s commitment to efficient resource utilization.
  • - Waste Diversion: Approximately 47% of waste generated was diverted from landfills, being reused, recycled, or repurposed.
  • - Biodiversity Projects: The company has planted over 130,000 trees and adopted 3.5 million bees to promote biodiversity as part of its commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen.
  • - Community Initiatives: Over 120 “people and communities” projects were successfully carried out in Europe and India, exemplifying Zentiva’s proactive approach to social responsibility (#WeHelpOthers).

Recognizing its efforts, Zentiva received a gold medal from EcoVadis, positioning its sustainability program among the top 2% in the pharmaceutical industry. Furthermore, the company was honored with the 2025 Transparency Award from EUPD Group for its reporting and communication in sustainability practices.

According to Steffen Saltofte, CEO of Zentiva, "As a leading manufacturer of off-patent medicines in Europe, we have a responsibility to support public health systems while reducing our planet's burden. Every day, millions rely on the affordability, availability, and accessibility of the medicines we produce and distribute."

Ines Windisch, General Affairs and Sustainability Lead, emphasized the essence of the sustainability report by stating, "It illustrates how our daily actions contribute to healthier communities and a better environment. Protecting people goes hand in hand with protecting the planet, and sustainability is an ongoing commitment that we must embrace every day in everything we do."

As a crucial supplier of off-patent medicines in Europe, Zentiva ensures that citizens have access to quality and affordable medications they depend on daily. Off-patent medicines make up approximately 70% of all dispensed medications but account for only 19% of pharmaceutical expenditures, underscoring their significance in ensuring affordability and viability in public health systems (IQVIA, 2024).

Zentiva continues to invest in its industrial footprint and sustainability strategy to guarantee patients constant access to medications—both now and in the future.
