F-Pico and Heiwado Collaborate to Promote Eco-Friendly Food Trays

Promoting Sustainability: F-Pico and Heiwado's Eco-Tray Initiative

F-Pico Co., Ltd., under the leadership of Chairman Mamoru Sato, is partnering with Heiwado Co., Ltd., led by CEO Masatsugu Hiramatsu, to promote a sustainable recycling initiative across all 165 Heiwado stores. This partnership emphasizes the concept of "store-to-store" recycling, utilizing used food trays collected at retail locations to produce new eco-friendly food trays called "Eco Tray" and "Eco APET." This innovative approach supports a horizontal recycling system that enhances sustainability in the community.

The Initiative in Detail

Both companies aim to position their stores as eco-leaders in their respective regions. Community members are encouraged to bring used food trays to Heiwado stores, where dedicated collection boxes have been installed. The trays collected will be processed by F-Pico, transforming them into new eco-friendly products such as Eco Tray and Eco APET. By doing so, they exemplify a circular economy where materials are reused, extending the lifecycle of the products.

In the business year ending February 2024, Heiwado plans to collect a substantial 938 tons of used food trays. The company will then incorporate the recycled goods back into their sales areas, thereby bolstering their commitment to resource circularity. The collaboration reflects a forward-thinking approach to waste management and resource reutilization in retail.

Ongoing and Future Efforts

F-Pico and Heiwado plan to strengthen their coordination with activities aimed at educating elementary school students about environmental sustainability. Through environmental campaigns and educational projects in-store, they are working towards the realization of a sustainable circular society. Both companies pledge to actively increase the usage of Eco Tray and Eco APET in everyday business operations, demonstrating a firm commitment to reducing environmental impact.
