Exploring Innovative Solutions for Labor Shortages at HCJ2026

HCJ2026: A Vital Event for the Hospitality Industry

The “HCJ2026” exhibition will take place from February 17 to 20, 2026, at Tokyo Big Sight, presenting innovative solutions to the pressing challenges faced by the hospitality, food service, and catering industries. Organized by the Japan Management Association (JMA) and four industry bodies, this exhibition is set to be one of the largest in Japan, featuring over 800 exhibitors and expecting around 60,000 visitors.

The event encompasses three major segments: the International Hotel & Restaurant Show (HOTERES JAPAN), the Food & Catering Show (CATEREX JAPAN), and the Japan Food Service Equipment Show. The collective focus is to address the unique needs of the service and food businesses in Japan, especially in light of the recent surge in inbound tourism.

The hospitality industry is experiencing both benefits and challenges. While an increase in international visitors is a positive trend, the sector grapples with severe labor shortages and thin profit margins. HCJ2026 aims to showcase a wide array of products and services, providing attendees with the chance to find innovative solutions to these challenges all in one place. A notable highlight will be the kitchen equipment section, featuring developments like automated cooking machines and cooking robots designed to maintain high culinary standards while alleviating workforce pressures.

This year’s exhibition will feature the “AI/TECH/DX INNOVATION ZONE,” a key area dedicated to showcasing how artificial intelligence and cutting-edge technologies can help businesses combat labor shortages and reduce operational costs. Special sessions will be hosted in the atrium of the West Exhibition Hall, where prominent business leaders and startup founders will share insights. Notably, Takafumi Horie, the founder of the social media group, is scheduled to present on February 20.

In addition to existing zones, HCJ2026 will introduce new areas focusing on “Pet Tourism” and “Human Resource Development & Recruitment.” The Pet Tourism section will spotlight the growing demand for pet-friendly travel, featuring accommodations and services that cater specifically to pet owners, reflecting the expanding market potential.

Attendee registration is now open. Those interested in participating can pre-register at the provided URL. Admission is free, although attendees under 16 years of age will not be permitted entry.
