Harris Teeter Leaders Come Together to Pack Meals for Local Families in Need

Harris Teeter Leaders Pack Meals for Local Families

In a heartwarming display of community spirit, over 300 store managers and leaders from Harris Teeter gathered to pack meal boxes as part of their annual leadership meeting. This year's initiative focused on providing essential food supplies to families in Mecklenburg County, with a total of 4,992 seven-day meal boxes created in partnership with Nourish Up, a local charitable organization dedicated to combating hunger.

Tammy DeBoer, President of Harris Teeter, expressed her pride in the company’s commitment to community service, stating, "It was inspiring to see our store managers and leaders come together… to serve our community in such a meaningful way." The initiative aims not only to feed families but also to enrich lives, reflecting Harris Teeter's mission to contribute positively to the neighborhoods it serves.

A Detailed Look at the Initiative

The meal boxes, designed to nourish families for an entire week, were packed with non-perishable items such as mac and cheese, canned tuna, pasta, and various fruits and vegetables. Each box provides three meals per day for a week, totaling 21 nourishing meals. Harris Teeter’s donation of over 104,000 meals illustrates the company’s ongoing commitment to alleviate hunger in the community.

The collaboration with Nourish Up plays a central role in this effort. Tina Postel, CEO of Nourish Up, highlighted the significance of this partnership in addressing food insecurity within the community. She stated, "Our partnership with Harris Teeter makes a meaningful difference in our mission to eliminate food insecurity... providing a full week of nutritious groceries and critical support during a time when many are struggling to put food on the table."

The Broader Impact

Harris Teeter's engagement with Nourish Up and the local community goes beyond a single event. The supermarket chain has established itself as a reliable partner by consistently providing both food and financial resources to support Nourish Up's initiatives. With more than 40 food pantries engaged in its network, Nourish Up is instrumental in delivering groceries and meals to those in need throughout the Charlotte area.

This initiative not only helps to address immediate food shortages but also raises awareness about the ongoing issue of hunger in local communities. It reminds us all that collaboration between businesses and charitable organizations can yield substantial benefits for those who need it most.
